Meh? Lets me know where an AV is lacking. Lets the company know where they should improve. If I see my AV doing worse on each test as the test becomes harder, but the AV has more time to improve on it... Then something is wrong. Fortunately, it hasn't happened yet, and the product that I use continually improves.

From what I make of it, the two main points you are making is that Wilders peeps have read the publicly available information on security products and have better surfing habits. Thats true.

But my point refers to understanding of security software. Very few of us actually analyze malware professionally and write security software. We rely on, just as the average Joe, someone else to test the AVs for us.

Has anybody seen this? "ProtectStar" is preparing a review of Security Suites in cooperation with av-comparatives.org. I read it first on rokop-security.de. The link is http://www.protectstar-testlab.org/en.press-center-news-04032008.html

I have never heard of this ProtectStar. It does sound interesting, though. As Av-comparatives only tests few aspects of AV programs. Hope the quality will be better than that of average PC magazines, though.

I'm interested to know whether they have to pay for the results of the av-comparatives test or whether it's REAL cooperation.

    1) There is no standard testing method for AVs.
Let's hope that AMTSO will bring some discipline
    and make things transparent.

    2) It is -at least- curious that -MOST OF THE TIME- the champions in:

    a) the German tests (av-test.de) are some German AV vendors.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    b) the Russian tests (anti-malware-test.com) & (antivirus.ru)
    are Russian AV vendors.

And very interesting! Looking forward to see what new versions of antivirusprograms can detect compared to previous versions.

Ahh, Jadda, i see you are a magazine fan.
1st.) I have my own experience and protection it offers from the product
    2nd.) This is 1 test.
3rd.) Most of the viruses tested here are old and inactive, thats why (i think) Dr web was not doing great
4th.) So, would you sway your AV if your av sucked in this test?
    ;) :)

some people WILL sway their av based on the upcoming results.

most people have, and most people will deny they are like this.

the Majority (not all) of people who use Avira now switched to them because of the results from av-comparatives etc, but they will deny this.

Avira was hardly used AT ALL on here, dont flame me, its true, until such results arrived.

so, what have they done/what did they do, with their existing antivirus, just put it aside and watch the subscription end, their PAID subscription?

im 100% sure that in 3 days, we will have the start of some users switching their antivirus,

i for one, aint like this.

results are interesting but wouldn't make me change. If a AV let my machine become infected THAT would make me chg. A test is just that. Like tests in school it has little meaning in the real world. I have yet to have to do algebra at the bank I work for ;-) ....

i wouldnt change my AV based on a test eiether. but since my AV gets top results it shows that my av companie is keeping its high detection rate:thumb:

but if The big K let a baddie in would it make you think that it had a problem? or would you just keep it since you bought it?

While I would like to see my AV program rated highly in any test, the main thing that only matters to me is the following:

    1) My system is not seriously compromised (my system could be infected, but it would be similar to a mosquito bite)
    2) My system does not slow to a crawl (this would be a more greater factor and any highly rated program would be expelled if it did this)

if it let something through i would submit the files to KL, in the meantime i would update and scan with superantispyware.
it would help me get rid of the threat and also protect the other kaspersky customers.
no av can block 100percent of the threats all the time. but kaspersky comes close with hourly updates and fast updates when users submit malware samples.

Very well spoken. That's why I reacted like I did, a few posts ago.
I still say, that it is only a comparison. Stick with the one(s) you like/love and you will be home free!

    Cheers
