i noticed alot of people here talk badly about auto updates and security. So as a general rule are auto updates a security hazard?

I wouldn't say as a general rule it's a bad idea, but like with anything there are benefits and risks. I wouldn't put just anything into my body because a doctor prescribes it and neither do I allow anyone and everyone to install stuff on my computer without knowing what it is. If I get a Rx from a reputable doctor, 9 times out of ten it'll be okay, but it's that 10th time I'm worried about. :D

I prefer to control updates myself.
    I have never liked Auto-Updating.

I also prefer manual update to automatic update. After all, it is my PC :p
