    I am a novice at computers so excuse my ignorance. When I start up internet explorer this is what starts up

    http://searchexe.com/passthrough//popupbaropener.html-microsoft internet explor

    My home page internet setting is automatically changed to http://prosearching.com/search/search.cgi?s=http://comcast.net/comcast.com

    My regular home page will come up but along with it comes a new toolbar called waygram. When I click this off it returns with the new screen. Also at the bottom, I get some kind of search bar with links to other sites. This will stay on the screen even if I close internet explorer.

    Recently, some sort of new menu bar has also attached itself to my desktop. I cannot track down where it is located at to delete.

    I have used ad-aware 6.0 but it has not corrected the problem.

    How do I get rid of this beast?

    Thanks

    Hi skip,

    Welcome at Wilders. :)

    Could you please follow the instructions posted here:
    http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=15913
    Since you already scanned with AdAware you can skip step one.

    you have only posted a part of the log and we need the rest as well to be able to remove the LOP hijack that you have

    you also have a CWS hijacker so download CWshredder from http://www.wilderssecurity.com/attachments/cwshredder1532.zip then unzip & Run it
    Close all browser windows, click on the cwshredder.exe then click "FIX" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.
    and make sure you follow the advice about the security updates listed on the last page, in order to prevent re-infection, otherwise you will be continually reinfected
    the patches are :
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=828026
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/ms03-011.asp
    *Note: The simplest way to make sure you have all the security patches is to go to Windows update and install all "Critical Updates & service Packs"

    Hi skip,

    I think you forgot to post the bottom half of the log, but we can do some cleaning with this part.

    Before you start please unzip hijackthis.exe to a folder of it´s own. The program creates backups in the folder it is in. In a Temp folder they easily disappear.

    Check the following items in HijackThis.
    Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://searchexe.com/searchbar.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://searchexe.com/searchbar.html

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.the-exit.com
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://searchexe.com/searchbar.html
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://searchexe.com/searchbar.html

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://searchexe.com/searchbar.html

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = http://www.the-exit.com
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,(Default) = http://www.the-exit.com/search
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: Clear Search - {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000240} - C:\Program Files\ClearSearch\IE_ClrSch.DLL
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {000006B1-19B5-414A-849F-2A3C64AE6939} - C:\WINDOWS\bi.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00000762-3965-4A1A-98CE-3D4BF457D4C8} - C:\Program Files\Lycos\Sidesearch\sidesearch1311.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {01C5BF6C-E699-4CD7-BEA1-786FA05C83AB} - C:\Program Files\SysAI\AproposPlugin.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3CAEC178-2180-C468-0A55-8D4CC85DF0F2} - C:\PROGRA~1\GPLENC~1\GrimDownload.dll

    O3 - Toolbar: Waygram - {F6AA76AA-EB47-26A8-7E2E-66995D27F9A0} - C:\PROGRA~1\GPLENC~1\GrimDownload.dll

    Then reboot into safe mode and delete:
    C:\Program Files\ClearSearch <= entire folder
    C:\Program Files\Lycos\Sidesearch <= entire folder
    C:\Program Files\SysAI <= entire folder
    C:\Program Files\C2Media <= entire folder
    C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate <= entire folder
    C:\Program Files\OWNSWI~1 <= the entire folder that holds loud deaf.exe
    C:\Program Files\GPLENC~1 <= the entire folder that holds GrimDownload.dll

    Then boot normally, run HijackThis again and post the new and complete log.
    SWhen you boot between removing the files and the second round of HijackThis, you may get some errors, because Windows is looking for files that are no longer there. Don't worry about that.

    Regards,

    Pieter
