I am happy with what I have. There was time when i felt i needed some HIPS software and got disgusted in their learning thing, like I knew if my system was still like virgin? And some raising paranoia thing with them. So I took a different approach. Just a 2 way Windows firewall. And Sandboxie. If some software is not able to run installed SBIEd, I would take some long thoughts if I need it. With a HIPS I would allow that software anyways most likely, if not passing some community CHIPS. SBIE has HIPS too, just only for progs running inside if the restrictions are put to place. Perfect for me.
FoolDNS is the perfect cross-platform solution for non-rooted mobile devices. Only problem is setting it up for mobile data. I'd say it blocks almost all common ads.
Oh noes, those are terrible. Hahahaha they have been working together happily for a couple years already.
Am I happy with my Security Setup now, well let me see........... I've been using Webroot since 2004 (Spy Sweeper). I'm using WSAC since it beginning and as of today have 373 days left on this license. I have a WSAC license that has not been activated yet with 1368 days on it. Yea, I think I'm very well satisfied with my security setup and will not change.
Yes, quite happy with my browsing inside of a sandbox which is inside of a VM which, in turn, is also inside of a sandbox. BUT, still constantly improving. This is an ongoing game with the #*@&ers who would hurt us. Can never stop learning and improving. In the past couple weeks have added ERP and Appguard to my main system (not the VM) which already had OnlineArmor. Amazing how silky smooth and fast these programs can work together on the same system. Acadia
Happy with my current linux set up. Best security so far. As for my fellow family members, Im not too happy with Avast and the recent trojan that HMP detected. Unfortunately it won't be for a little bit more time until I can get a hold on their computers and fix things up.
Linux I have to admit windows 8 with UEFI/GPT Secure Boot "On" (non-legacy) Bios coupled with Patchguard and UAC is infinitely more tight then any MS platforms before it, and Linux is an entire new learning curve for a noob to that system, but Linux is really peaked my interest like never before. EASTER
Don't fix what ain't broke. But if at some point you find windows inherently broken then know there is an option out there.
I'm not a type of ever being satisfied about anything, am I? Even after I've reached the simplest security setup I could imagine I still want to change it to something else. >_>
Reminds me of the tale of the philosophy student who took a well known candy bar manufacturer to task over their instruction to return the product if it didn't give "complete satisfaction". After a few rounds of this, they asked him what would do it for him - his reply, that the concept was dubious, but the closest thing to complete satisfaction was a slightly over-ripe banana. It's hard to see how security and satisfaction could be achieved, particularly these days. I ain't after Shangrila, but events over the last few years leave a very nasty taste in the mouth.
It's confirmed then. BTW, about that mystery guest I mentioned some day before, well it's EMET. I have an on and off feeling for it. I like the concept (and you people must have already heard of how much I've praised it) and apparently the incompatibility issues have been fixed in the newest version, but I am still wondering if it is really important to add in my team. I also don't exactly know where is its limit. Adding it still make my setup to be boring though. I haven't been having fun after I've retired from the CHIPS world. Indeed it is. Although I am not trying to build a flawless fortress, I'm just not happy with what I have currently. NoScript/HTTP Switchboard and Macrium are the only tools which managed to stay very long in my setup. Somehow I can't find anything like them for host-based proactive protection. I've tried and trialled many security apps and while they were rather impressive, I don't really want them as much. I wouldn't even use an alternative DNS service if my ISP wasn't doing censorship in the UK a la mode.
