Are Windows updates really that important?

    The good news is that Win 8 and 10 are a lot more secure than Win XP, because the OS kernel is hardened, making it harder to exploit.

    Harder does not mean anything you can practically discern as a user. For instance, 1 in 10,000 versus 1 in 8,000 means it's harder to exploit, but it makes no difference to an ordinary person surfing the Web. The only thing people can really feel is if it's in orders of magnitude. Anything else is just statistics no one will notice.

    The point is that if it's harder to hack, less hackers will be able to write working exploits, so at the end of the day users still profit from it.
