I am looking into getting a new system -- and from what I have been reading on the web -- Apple computers sound much safer than PCs -- So, why aren't people buying them?

One huge problem for me -- is the fact that NO ONE in my entire state [kansas] even sells them!
So, I am wondering what is the problem o_O

Would someone that knows more about these things please explain it to me?

*nix safer too --- runs on a PC, there are tons of different flavours and is free. Why run into another proprietary trap?

I`ll add my .02 to the advice. Yes they are, but, only for now. As they grow in popularity they will become a bigger target for the "script kiddies" and serious "Black hats".

I'd have to agree with the Inspector. They're far more sexier.

Although, I would probably promptly replace the OS with a Linux Flavor. :ninja:

    Many Thanks!
dog, Inspector Clouseau, WSFuser, ThunderZ, and sosaiso
for all of your replies and info!
    :)

Since there aren't any Mac retailers within a 150 mile radius, I am not willing to put out the $dollars -- and it sounds as though -- I made a wise decision even though I did not know it at the time!
    ;)

I am going to see if I can find someone at the university to make me one from scratch - one without all the "blot" etc. At least I would be able to get it 'fixed' if it should go down on me! And without all the blot, it might even work much better from the start -- and keep working longer!

Thanks once again one and all!

mac arent really safer beause they are starting to be a target for hackers malware writers and so on so its only a matter of time till they are both the same unsafe. plus you cant play games on macs and there isnt as much software on them

That would keep me busy until they get more. Besides I'd be doing other things as well.

The difference is that you can uninstall iTunes by dragging it into the trash.

As far as Mac OSX being just as unsecure as Windows, you really should research the topic and you'll see that this statement just isn't true.
