are anti spyware programmes good real time defenders or just cleaners of infections

hello.......most of the time people advise to have a good firewall and av in real time mode but for spy ware programmes the tip is to have them on demand...sas....mbam...etc.....does this entail that they are just great infection cleaners....and does not add much to real time prevention....

 

The reason is that most AV's include spyware protection. So Antispywares are most of a backup in case something slips through.
They have superb cleaning capabilities, so it makes sense using them on-demand and let your AV do the real-time job.

 

50% of the research that goes into MBAM involves AV failures in the HJT forums . We dont target any specific type of malware , only the stuff that the AVs seems to be having issues with .

The other 50% is split between new malware hunting and samples from multiple sample pools .

MBAM is also very good at undoing system damage left behind after a malware cleanup , this again is something the AVs often dont touch .


As far as prevention goes we obviously can block what we can detect .
