Apple Inc. is closing an additional 14 U.S. retail stores Friday because of recent increases in Covid-19 cases, bringing the number shut after recently reopening to 32.

The closings will affect stores across Florida, Apple said Thursday in a statement. The decision means that 16 of Apple’s 18 stores in the state have been closed again, with just those in Jacksonville and Sarasota still open.

“Due to current Covid-19 conditions in some of the communities we serve, we are temporarily closing stores in these areas,” an Apple spokesman told Bloomberg. “We take this step with an abundance of caution as we closely monitor the situation and we look forward to having our teams and customers back as soon as possible.”

Apple has re-closed 77 stores in recent weeks in the United States as Covid-19 cases rapidly rise in several regions around the country.

Four Apple stores in Victoria, Australia are set to reclose for up to six weeks from July 9, following a spike in coronavirus infections in the state.

As reported by 9to5Mac, Apple Highpoint in Melbourne was the first store to reclose on July 2 as the deteriorating health situation prompted a reintroduction of stage three lockdown measures across the state capital.
Apple's other retail stores in Victoria will now also reclose. They include Chadstone, Southland, Doncaster, and Fountain Gate. All four stores had been operating on a reduced pickup and appointment-only Genius Support service since last week.

England will enter a new lockdown from Thursday, November 5 to curb a steep rise in coronavirus cases, the U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced. The lockdown will last for at least four weeks, closing all non-essential shops, including all Apple stores in the country, just over one week before Apple launches the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max on Friday, November 13.

Apple has yet to comment, but the lockdown will basically force Apple's 32 stores in England to close until at least Wednesday 2 December, and will likely also include stores operating with an Express storefront, which means customers in the country are won't be able to select in-store pick up of new ‌iPhone 12‌ mini or ‌iPhone 12 Pro‌ Max devices when they launch next Friday.

Orders of HomePod mini, which launches on the same day, will be similarly limited to deliveries only.

Despite the UK government ordering a second coronavirus lockdown from Thursday, Apple Stores in the country appear to be planning to remain open in a limited capacity, as they already have in France's lockdown.
"Employees deeply upset," continued the email. "Company has shifted safety stance to profit stance. Some Employees being forced to work during Lockdown."

AppleInsider has reached out to Apple, and got a response from Jim Dowling, Apple's Director, Communications, Europe.

"Nothing's confirmed either way yet," said Dowling. When pressed on when a decision would be made, he told us: "unlikely today, probably tomorrow, certainly before Thursday!"
Apple was among the first businesses to close its stores ahead of the UK's initial lockdown.
Those official instructions specifically state that "certain businesses and venues" have been ordered to close, although there is still some confusion.

According to the French government's Decree No. 2020-1310, "prescribing the general measures necessary" for the lockdown, Apple Stores are considered essential. Listed among some 40 exemptions are two that apply to Apple.

However, worsening conditions in France now mean that all Apple Stores in the country are now closing. Some stores closed today, others will shut tomorrow, but all of them will then remain closed from Thursday 5 November until further notice.

Apple will offer Storefront service at its retail stores in England starting this Friday. The temporary pickup format will allow Apple to remain open and continue serving customers in a limited capacity during the launch of the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max, even as England enters a new national lockdown.

Apple’s Express storefronts allow customers to collect online orders at a safe and convenient pickup window. Browsing the store is not permitted, and service is offered only with a reserved time slot.
Update 11/5: Apple is informing iPhone Upgrade Program customers by email that they will not be able to visit a store to upgrade their devices under the current restrictions.

Apple Inc. is temporarily closing its Los Angeles-area stores as Covid-19 cases jump in the region. The move marks the first time in many months that Apple has shut retail locations in one of the country’s most populous areas.

The Cupertino, California-based technology giant has several stores in Los Angeles, including major outlets at The Grove and Beverly Center shopping centers, Santa Monica and the Glendale area. On its website, Apple said it is closing 11 local stores beginning Saturday and two stores Friday. It didn’t say when they would re-open.

Apple this weekend shut down all of its stores in California, including those in the San Francisco Bay Area, after beginning to shutter stores in Los Angeles on Friday.

All retail locations in California have a notice letting customers know that the stores are temporarily closed, though some are allowing for order pickups and genius bar appointments through December 22. There's no word on when the stores will reopen, but they will remain closed through the holidays.

As spotted by Shaun Jenks on Twitter, Apple has closed all of its retail locations in the United Kingdom. While some stores had remained open using a storefront or click and collect model, it appears that the company has moved to close all of those locations as well.

Apple will temporarily close more than 20 of its retail locations in Georgia, North Carolina and Texas as coronavirus cases continue to climb in those states.

In an update on its website first spotted by Bloomberg, the company indicates five Apple Stores in Georgia, five in North Carolina and about a dozen in Texas won’t be open to the public after they complete their regular hours on Friday evening. The closures include locations in major cities like Houston and Atlanta.

“Due to current COVID-19 conditions in some of the communities we serve, we are temporarily closing stores in these areas,” a spokesperson for the company told Bloomberg.
