Apple’s extended warranty, AppleCare+, has always covered iOS and Apple Watch devices for a total of two years. But after its iPhone 11 event, the company quietly introduced a new option that basically turns AppleCare+ into a full-on monthly subscription, allowing consumers to continue paying beyond the regular coverage period and keep going for as long as Apple is able to service their product. The change was spotted by 9to5Mac.

With the new approach, Apple uses the pretty clear wording of “pay monthly until canceled.” As 9to5Mac notes, you’d end up paying more through the monthly option for the standard 24 months of coverage than if you just opted to buy that length of time outright. The new subscription is really best for people who plan to hold on to their gadgets for several years.

AppleCare+ is part of Apple’s services division, and this change to a keep-paying-for-as-long-as-you-want model could help boost services profits even higher.
The indefinite AppleCare+ coverage isn’t available for Mac computers, Apple TVs, or other products, which still require upfront payments.

Apple is expanding AppleCare+ monthly payment options to Canada, Australia, and Japan, allowing customers in these countries to pay for ‌AppleCare‌+ for iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches on a monthly basis.

The online Apple Stores in Canada, Australia, and Japan aren't yet providing monthly payment options when checking out after new device purchases, but an AppleCare+ support document confirms the feature is rolling out.

In the United States, Australia, Canada, and Japan, when you purchase ‌AppleCare‌+ coverage for your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch, you can choose to pay monthly or pay upfront for 24 months of coverage. (For ‌Apple Watch‌ Edition and Hermes, you can pay upfront for 36 months.) If you paid upfront, you can go to mysupport.apple.com to continue coverage* on a monthly basis after the 24 or 36 months is over.

Monthly payment plans continue to renew each month until canceled, and ‌AppleCare‌+ coverage on a monthly plan continues beyond the standard 24 or 36 month (for the ‌Apple Watch‌ Hermes) period as long as monthly payments are continued.
Customers who purchase ‌AppleCare‌+ up front and pay the full price for a standard ‌AppleCare‌+ plan can later upgrade to a monthly plan to continue ‌AppleCare‌+ support beyond 24 months.

Apple is expanding its AppleCare+ monthly payment option to customers in Germany and the UK, making its extended support service for iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches more affordable in the countries.

Apple launched its monthly AppleCare+ payment option in the U.S. last year, followed by expanding the option to customers across Canada, Australia, and Japan, as well as extending how long customers have after the purchase of their devices to purchase and subscribe to AppleCare+, up from 60 days after the purchase to a full year afterward.

AppleCare+ is now available as an annually renewable plan for all Mac models, the Studio Display, and the Pro Display XDR in Canada, Australia, and Japan, allowing customers in these countries to pay for coverage on an annual basis from day one.

For example, customers in Canada now have the option to purchase an AppleCare+ plan for the MacBook Air with the M2 chip for $99.99 per year alongside the existing option of paying $269 for three years of coverage upfront. Full pricing information is available on the AppleCare+ for Mac page in Canada and Japan, but are not shown in Australia.

AppleCare+ now includes ‘unlimited’ repairs for accidental damage

AppleCare+ has been quietly upgraded today, following the announcement of the iPhone 14. Previously, AppleCare+ allowed for two incidents of accidental damage cover every year.

Starting today, that cap has been lifted. Apple now touts unlimited repairs for accidental damage protection, for as long as you keep paying.
Unless you are really clumsy, you probably wouldn’t exceed two repairs per year anyway. However, it’s nice to have that peace of mind of unlimited repairs, without incurring additional charges.

Where available, AppleCare+ Theft and Loss still covers up to two incidents of theft or loss every year.

In addition to unlimited repairs, AppleCare+ includes other benefits like Express Replacement Service — Apple ships you a replacement phone whilst they conduct a repair on your device — and 24/7 priority support access.
