For the last few days when I have left my computer idle for an hour or so and come back, I noticed the fans were running high. Task Manager shows Appguard Agent Service at the top of the list using 15 to 17% of my CPU..... quad core I7 using Win 8.1 Pro, 64 bit.

    Is this normal behavior?

"Is there any overlap between Malwarebytes Anti Exploit and appguard with its memory guard?
I would of thought so with Appguard with its Memread and write protection."

I dont seem to had any opinions on this question.

    Is there a duplication?

    Hi there,
Well I am thinking this would be a great app for my Dad...He is running XP SP3 ( yes I know, but he is VERY stubborn, and refuses to budge on this,so have given up on trying to tell him otherwise)..As i understand it from there site it is recommended for it..
I live thousands of miles away from him,and only get to see him approx. 3-4 times a year....Will be seeing him in 7-8 days...so hopefully I will give it a try on his machine...
What I would like to know is...Is this the kind of progy, that is basically the kind of setup that you install and all the defaults would be fine,as in "set and forget"...
As for other security programs I know he has...they are Avast AV free,Zemana Anti-logger Pro,WinPatrol Pro,MWAM Pro..(told me he just updated to latest version 2.0) and ZA Pro firewall.....
Any possible conflicts arising there that anyone could see??....and hopefully there won,t be a barrage of pop-ups...
Any tips you can add will be greatfully accepted:D

    Thanks

No popups from this software just flashing the system tray from what i have seen.

You will need to add you internet facing apps like browser,email,p2p and some other targets like MS Office to the guarded apps.

No conflict with winpatrol on my machine.
The others may have to be added to power apps to be excluded.

Running XP here and will continue to do so since some old hardware and software doesnt run well on my w7 OS
Dual booting xp and w7 64bit on the desktop.

Browsers like IE, Firefox, and Chrome are already on the guarded apps list by default. MS Office is also on the list by default. You can check to make sure, but it should already be on the Guarded Apps List.

I'm not aware of any popups from AG. The tray icon may flash if it blocks something depending on your alerts settings. The alert settings can be customized. You have to check the Appguard activity report to see what AG is blocking. Don't be alarmed if you see AG is blocking a lot of actions. That is normal. Unless you see some adverse effects like affecting the functionality of some other applications on your PC then there's no reason to be alarmed. Usually the only exclusions that need to be made are for other security applications.

There is one popup you may get that I just thought of. You may get a popup notifying you about your license, and how many potentially dangerous blocked events AG has blocked. That happens when you are using a trial version of AG. That's the only popup I can think of.

The license popup and threats stopped is on windows bootup though for unregistered users only.

Personally i wish i could configure Appguard to give me a popup since the system tray icon is too easy to miss. :(

    How that popup will work?

Will alert about a blocked executable, with an option to allow it or to change AppGuard to Install mode?

    Will be optional?

Thanks for that...as I will more than likely DL a "trial" version..to get started..

??I thought I had read here somewhere in this LONG thread that it wasn,t a good idea or necessary to add them to power apps.....can someone clarify please...

Is there a published list somewhere where it lists all the guarded apps by default?

One other thing that came to mind is when I get to my Dad,s place and on to his computer.....He is very, very fussy about knowing how many processess/services are going to be added, and how much Ram is going to be used....Can someone give me the "hard facts" on this as I know he is going to ask me this, and I want to have a good answer for him...I,m sure he has 4GB..

    Thanks

AppGuard currently will not give you a popup about a blocked executable. AG also does no give you the option to allow it on-demand. You have to look at the AG activity report to see what AG is blocking. If AG is blocking something you want to allow you currently have to make it a Power App, or add it to the Trusted Publishers list. I do not know if there will be any change to this. AFAIK BRN intends to release AG version 4.1 at the end of April if they can get it ready in time. There is a new autoinstall mode that is being added to AG version 4.1 which will automatically switch to install mode if an installer is detected. I'm not sure what other changes are being made. The autoinstall mode will come disabled by default except for users of Fortress which is suppose to be a more user friend version of AG for AOL users. Some of this could be subject to change, but that is the information that was last given to me.

Usually the only thing you may want to make a Power App is your other security application. Some people like myself make other security applications Power Apps without waiting to see if AG blocks any functionality of the other security applications. You can look at AppGuard's activity log to see if AG is blocking anything from your other security applications. You may not have to make your other security applications Power Apps at all. They may work fine without making them Power Apps, or adding them to the Publisher's List. I just prefer making my other security applications power apps, and adding them to the publisher's list in case there is a conflict.

I wonder how that is going to work in conjunction with AppGuard's drive-by download protection. If a website downloaded an executable file to user-space that AppGuard detected as an installer, the system would be wide open to infection if AppGuard automatically switched to Install mode to enable it to run.

Hopefully, it would only apply to signed executables from trusted publishers in the Publishers List where the Install flag is set to Allow, and only then when running at the Medium protection level.

One of the developers was wondering if you would feel comfortable using Perfmon to collect some information for us?

Please send the info to AppGuard@BlueRidge.com!

There will be a popup for blocked executions in 4.1. You can also elect to "not show this message again."

Note "Tech Fortress" (shown in the graphic) is the AOL brand name for AppGuard.
