If i have an AV solution that does have a "Ransomware" protection, what kind of an additional security AppCheck gives? Ransomware Shelter? Does it work on kernel level(hooks)? Does it monitor legit softwares, for example like abusing dos rar.exe(if installed etc). I'm currently using McAfee Endpoint Security (self managed). Took a week to configure it for my liking. Tested it about a month against many kind of fresh malware samples and nothing gets thru. And without "breaking" my system for playing games, surfing etc. Absolutely the best security software i've ever used and i've tested many of them during several years.
OK thanks. I'm starting to think that AppCheck and OSArmor may not be the cause of the problems, because after removing them I still had issues on Win 10. I think it's probably caused by some Windows update, go figure. I think I will need to have to perform a full reset because I can't uninstall certain updates for some reason. Thanks to M$ for wasting my time.
BTW, according to SnapFiles, AppCheck has been updated to 2.5.51.9, so they are still alive: https://www.snapfiles.com/get/appcheckantiransom.html
Post #640 - Apr 21 My PRO installs updated to 2.5.51.9 on April 13. I emailed them regarding the changelog and they replied as is detailed now on their Release Notes page. https://www.checkmal.com/notice/read/362/?lang=en&p=1 That it didn't show up there until the other day (Aug. 11) is irregular.
OK my bad, so it's not actually newly released. I never use auto-update with any app, so that's why I don't notice these things.
I wasn't replying to your post. However, I felt necessary a community focused posting of CheckMal's recent dysfunctional Release Notes reporting based on my own hands-on experience. I did mention to them in April that the page needed updating re 2.5.51.9 when I inquired about its changelog as, without such, it otherwise evokes confusion and undermines assurances in the app's effectiveness and the developer's commitment. Hopefully they'll get back on the ball and keep the page current as they have been since 2017.
OK I see, but it was still interesting info, so that's why I responded. So basically you were already using this ''new'' version months ago.
Hi everyone. Complete newy here and needing help. I installed the new version 2.5.51.9 (free) on a new pc and cannot get the real time protection to enable. I have ran the cleaner and nothing was found. Tray icon is all greyed out and I am not sure what I am doing wrong. It worked perfectly on my old pc. Any help would be appreciated.
What operating system? Have you tried installing previous versions? You can contact technical support through the form on the homepage - Support - Online Support, they are friendly and will reply to your email you provide.
Check in Services if "AppCheck Anti-Ransomware Service" is Startup Type as "Automatic" and Status is "Running." If not, make the changes. Otherwise, ditto aldist, their support is responsive and friendly. Good luck.
https://www.checkmal.com/product/appcheck/ Scroll down to "Function Comparison." Automatic Remediation is the only core mission function absent in the free version. As well as personal use only. Paying for other features like network drive protection, USB protection, stable updates, etc. is up to your needs. I consider Add or change default extensions for protection particularly important.
Add or change default extensions for protection and what is that exactly, it does not ring a bell, saw your link
https://www.checkmal.com/manual/detail/ Scroll down to AppCheck Options: Ransom Guard. View the graphic. (The feature sets were re-arranged in 2.5.51.4, but the extension list still exists under the Ransom Guard tab when Ransom Shelter was given a tab of its own. See my post #623 here.) Consult the text beginning with "File extension list for protection..." In Pro, I added extensions for my password manager data bases and file sync rules among a couple of others. Like .hc for VeraCrypt containers. It is my understanding the default extensions are enabled in not-Pro even though shown in the Pro area; if that's important you might want to verify that with support. I never ran not-Pro, so I don't care. Good thing I'm retired. I used to charge big bucks for this kind of work.
Just did a "Check Update" from the UI... Pro is at 2.5.51.10 now. No changelog posted as of this writing: https://www.checkmal.com/notice/read/362/
No, its 2.5.51.9. CheckMAL reports its up to date. I don't know where people are getting the next version from because its not on their update server.
Oh yeah. When I posted up #669 I forgot to ask if you're running free. I've always used Pro since I got a freebie license in February of 2017 and just kept paying for the renewals. But, interesting in that on their Release Notes page it states... ...which I think is another way of saying that free users will test for the Pro users (like MBAE). Though I always thought 24 hours wasn't enough time for that. Hopefully this won't be a months-long delay as was the 2.5.51.5 to 2.5.51.9 free version update; see posts #655 and #640. I sure wish they'd keep that release notes page updated.
I shot off an email at to support asking about the changelog for the recent Pro version update from 2.5.51.9 to 2.5.51.10 and in two hours a reply came in: Probably needed for their Endpoint Protection products having to be woven into Pro, it being a supporting agent, client and server or cloud. So, free users... you're good. Too bad they're in trouble.
