I tried the AOMEI PE Builder, http://www.aomeitech.com/pe-builder.html.

I created the WINPE ISO and then the UFD, which booted normally. This hasn´t happened with other AOMEI ISOs I have tried before.

Backupper and Partition Assistant are added automatically, it´s not necessary to have them installed. Neither it´s necessary to download and install the WADK.

It includes 7-Zip, BOOTICE, Sumatra PDF Reader, Notepad 2, OSF Mount and the WinRE tools, and others. And it´s possible to customize it, adding another programs. It can be useful as a recovery tool, even if one doesn´t use Backupper.

It is possible to customize it quite easily.. only if the software would work as its suppose to work..
You can see the portable app dirs in the winpe builder's installation directory+menu lists, which you can edit+add stuff.
    Did they update it?

Wouldn't matter by that time.......... I going to use the fresh load off the usb created install
Not worth fiddling with the other "old" stuff..spent enough time on it
probably windoze servers can detect images..-+

I just have my fresh made off windows creators app on USB and mainstay apps on separate usb stick ..........can be back up in 55 minutes

They were giving away 4.06 a couple of weeks ago. I now have versions from 2.01 to 4.06 on different systems. I recently set up a multiboot EFI/GPT system and started with 2.01--the last version that didn't require server activation for the pro version. When the offer came out, I upgraded to 4.06 on every version of windows installed--7,8, 8.1, and 10. Images are compatible across all versions of Backupper I'm using. The whole issue of system backup not working with EFI on GPT disks on versions before 2.5 was more of a scripting issue than anything to do with the basic imaging function. I always did partition backups and restores and manually backing up and restoring the EFI system partition worked fine with 2.01. For some reason, the system backup failed to backup the EFI partition. The EFI partition is by far the smallest and simplest so this was really bad. It doesn't even require imaging, a file based backup would work fine as long as the partition was the first fat32 partition the UEFI bios saw. At one point I changed the BCD menu in the EFI partition and backed up all the files in the EFI partition to a fat32 thumb drive and forgot to remove it. It booted the EFI files and BCD in the thumb drive and gave me the old menu.

I still find it to be the best free imaging software for Windows. I like it's clean interface and simplicity. I use it to back up and clone extensively and it has never failed me. There have been some cloning operations that have taken more than one try but I don't think it would be any different with other programs. With Linux ext3 and ext4 partitions, it has some limitations but it still can do basic backup, restore and cloning. I use gparted for resizing linux partitions and the DD command for some backups but Aomei is my goto program for Windows imaging.

    MisterB,

    I like Aomei Backupper too.

Regarding System backups. I don't think they should be used at all with OS on GPT disks as they don't backup the MSR or Recovery partition. If you have a drive failure and have to restore to a new drive, you are in big trouble. I use Entire Drive backups/restores. Always works.

There service is outstanding. One of my licenses refused to activate. Said activations had been exceeded.

I emailed late last night. Got an email reply saying the licenses had been reset. Hard to beat that.

I have two Pro licenses so it gives me confidence to see both @Brian K and @Peter2150 endorsing AOMEI Backupper :).

I only recently threw my hat into the license ring for AOMEI after testing their Partition Assistant and getting the snappiest result I ever experienced as well as 100% safe with no data loss. I actually am very warmed up to this vendor now and doing some study on them am pretty pleased with their progress in this chosen field of expertise. Not yet familiar at all with Backupper but there will be time for that somewhere.

I also have to put in a word for their excellent support, not technical in this case.

I had occasion to ask them to reset my license yesterday (AB Pro with lifetime upgrades, which is good for two PCs), due to a laptop that went belly up so that I could use the lost license on another computer.

I had hardly pressed enter and they responded, as well as following up later.

Couldn't agree more. Pretty good endorsements since they run imaging thru a grinder and won't hesitate for a moment to fume when something is not quite up to task :)

SUMo also showed this for a while, but Pro internal updater still doesn't download it.

Will try again tomorrow, else do it manually.
