That's right, It has some bugs in restoring all the partitions.
It rendered one OS backup unbootable, since it wouldn't return the partitions in the backup correctly.
After that I stopped using Aomei Backupper.

    Hi,
I have Macrium Reflect v5 but I find the user interface a bit 'challenging', shall we say.
Anyway, I'm trialling AOMEI Backupper Pro and, so far, I like it. I have a couple of basic questions, if I may...

System Backup creates a whole disk image including OS, installed programs and all personal files such as documents and photographs, etc - is that right?

That being the case I don't necessarily have to use 'Disk Backup', Partition Backup' or 'Folder Backup' to have my entire PC backed up. In the event of a catastrophic failure I can reboot from external bootable media and restore the whole thing to it's previous state from the 'System Backup' - is that correct?

So when might you use 'Disk Backup', Partition Backup' or 'Folder Backup'?

In the event I accidentally delete a file or folder from my computer I can locate it by 'Exploring' (mounting) the 'System Backup', navigate to the folder or file and Copy & Paste it to my PC - is that how it's done?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jeff

    Hi Jeff

    1. Yes that is correct
    2. Also correct
    4 Is also correct

As to 3. Since my win 7 machines, only have one partition, and don't have the 100mg boot partition, I just choose Partition Backup. But that's just personal choice. I could use system.

    Hi Pete,
Thanks very much for the reply. I'm reading up on differential vs incremental backups and waiting for the penny to drop... :)
Once decided, I can schedule the frequency of the backup(s) ('Schedule Backup') and then I separately use 'Backup Scheme' to manage the disk space - have I got it?

Yes, that should work. I've never used the schema with Aomei. Just set it up and watch a while. Also I would recommend test restoring image from time to time.

So, will this free version backup folders and password protect them and compress them? If so, is the new win 10 1511 ok with this?

There is very little on their web site that may show it can not, or is the documentation for the pro version?

It seems like they have a Free promo for the pro version now. It is good for 2 systems, but the License is ONLY for the current version. I may try it, but is this a good, reliable Image/Folder Program?

I have AOMEI Backupper Pro v3.2 installed on a Windows 10 PC. I purchased licenses for the Pro version because it has a Disk Space Management feature which is supposed to allow for new scheduled backup images to automatically replace older ones. I have the program configured to make a daily scheduled backup image stored on an external hard drive and a weekly scheduled backup image stored on a different external hard drive. I have both schedules configured for Full Backup Scheme (no incremental or differential backups), have the "Enable Disk Space Management" box checked, and to only retain the latest backup image. My problem is that older backup images are not being automatically deleted when a new image is created. I have to manually delete old backup images or else my hard drives would eventually be filled to capacity with them.

I contacted AOMEI Support and explained the problem. They asked me to send them the program's log files and screenshots of the scheduled backup tasks which I promptly did. Over two months have passed with no further response from AOMEI Support. They no longer reply to my messages seeking assistance. Several times I've cancelled existing backup schedules and configured new ones, repeatedly trying to find some way to get AOMEI Backupper Pro to delete old backups as new ones are created. A couple times after creating a new schedule, old backup images were deleted once or twice when a new image was made but this success was short-lived; soon older backups would stop being deleted and continue to pile up. Does anyone familiar with this program have any suggestions how I may resolve this problem?

Well, they now do have this Pro version 3.2 for free, but I do wonder how good it is. I "may" try it as I do have the download and the license for this version.

Also switched to Pro for disk space management.
Similar config as you and seems to work (mostly), but my issue is that their scheduling feature is unreliable, as is their email notification feature. With more complex backup schemes, I am often left scratching my head what it is actually doing.
No issues with Macrium Reflect, so just using AOMEI as a fall-back now.

I also rely on Macrium Reflect as my primary backup imaging program and it has been flawless on my family's three PCs. I purchased AOMEI Backupper Pro because I prefer having a secondary imaging program for extra insurance. The scheduling feature of AOMEI Backupper Pro has been highly reliable for me, but the automatic deletion of old backups almost never works ... which defeats the purpose of my paying for Pro version licenses. I'm very displeased that AOMEI Support has apparently abandoned me after I explained the problem and provided them with the screenshots and files they asked for.

I also had problems with AOMEI Backupper Pro's automatic merging not working as it should (so I switched to MR) which works correctly in that regard). Too bad because otherwise I found AB to be solid.

In my experience, yes, though I haven't tried too many restores from AOMEI as Macrium is my primary imaging program.
And unlike @Karen76's experience in post #258 above, the disk space management feature that comes with the Pro version has generally worked with full images only.

In my experience AB worked well for all image types (just didn't merge them) - nevertheless, MR6-Free is a better choice.

Scott...I do use MR6 Free but do want password and file backups as well. However, I think that MR is VERY expensive and was looking for a less expensive option. I did get the AOMEI Pro on their free offer page, but I DO need it to work. That is why I asked. I have NOT installed AOMEI yet.

Well MR6 Home is rather expensive* and while it is really good it is not without bugs. As far as AB goes, if you're not concerned about it accumulating backups until you manually delete them and that it's much slower than MR6 (backups and restores), I found it to be reliable.

I have been using AOMEI Backupper Pro for over a year now and it's been great with my 5 SSD's and I highly recommend it. Anyone using AOMEI Backerupper Free or Pro and how do you feel about there products? http://www.backup-utility.com/

    Thanks,

I use Backupper Pro on Win 7 Pro x64 and Win 8.1 Pro x64 (in addition to Macrium Reflect).
I find two aspects of the product buggy on both macines - scheduled backups (whether defined via Windows Task Scheduler or their own service) do not always run, and the 'Backup with Scheme' does not do what it says e.g. keep last three differentials will keep adding more ...

Really! I don't use scheduled backups I just back up my system once a week and I find Macrium Pr to expensive, if they had free lifetime upgrades maybe but not a upgrade price when a new extensive version comes out.

    Thanks,

    Daniel

AOMEI it's a very good software ! I wish that it add the possibility to launch the restore directly from Windows - with reboot naturally - as Acronis has.
