Hey lodore, I just wanted to say thanks for your reply about Perfect Disk. It always worries me to try a software that does things like this one does, and am I right that you definitely think it's safe? I would like to reverse some the CHKDSK slowdown in Phase Two that I believe is a result from using AVS, and read that PD will help this a little bit with a boot time defrag. That's the part that worries me. LOL. Thanks.

it seems that its just fragmentation in the MFT. mft=master file table.
the boot time defrag in eiether perfectdisk or diskeeper will sort that out.
    do you have perfectdisk?
because if not i reccomend the diskeeper 2007 version.
can you tell me how the bootime defrag does if you do one?
i have never tryed a boot time defrag

I haven't even downloaded Perfect Disk yet, and only thought about using it because someone in the Kaspersky Forum said it helped with as you mentioned the MFT fragmentation that may be caused by AVS. I have done some reseach though, and many people actually prefer it over Diskeeper. I'm not saying it's necessarily better, but just what I have read. Like I said it just worries me a slight bit if either one of these Derfraggers are safe to use. I think so, but need a little more reassurance before using either one.

diskeeper is made by a company called Executive Software. read more about them here http://www.diskeepereurope.com/en/07_general/comp_overview.htm.
they having been making diskeeper for 19 years.
also you might want to know that the windows bulti in defrag program is a slower older version of diskeeper. so microsoft trust diskeeper.
perfect disk is good as well but it didnt run on my computer well.
i got diskeeper in the end and im happy with it. its a shame id have to pay £26 for the 2007 pro version thou from the 10 pro version

I recommend using DIRMs (free version with DIRMS gui)
    http://www.dirms.com/download/dirms1220.zip
    http://web156.server83.rhs-it.de/wolfgang-fuehrer/filearea/pub/dirms/dirms_gui_033.zip

    and/or

    PowerFragmenter with Contig (and pagedefrag)
    http://www.excessive-software.eu.tt/
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/FileAndDisk/Contig.mspx
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/FileAndDisk/PageDefrag.mspx

Both free and equally good (or better) than commercial utilities, for on-demand defragmentation.

As for KAV, just goes to show how well they handle criticism, imho.

I won't touch their products with a ten foot pole, until they start reacting to their issues in a more professional manner. Twice burnt, ever shy...
