The Linkscanner is beyond annoying at least to people that own web based sites.. I have blocked Linkscanner from ever touching my site. POS does nothing but run my bandwidth bills into the ground. :cautious:

I still use the free version on my old, hardly used, pc.It does the job it's required to do.
Even though the current reviews are good I won't use it for my main pc as I'm very happy with the setup I currently have.

I added the ID Protect from the $2.75 deal. It integrates into AVG free fine although I may upgrade to the paid AVG freebie I just got from a promo. Also running Prevx. So it appears everything is running together and fairly light. From its actions, it seems ID Protect is comparable to Prevx although not nearly as comprehensive or strong. I've not seen IDP stop anything but it has monitored some windows processes/services running in the background.

AVG was an antivirus I used in the early part of the decade because, well...there was nothing else. Antivir required you download 5+ MB file every time you updated signatures and that would not work on my dial up connection and Avast was largely unknown then.

I'm not sure if AVG's early reputation was based on the fact it was good or it was just available. One could argue most paid security suites at the time were pretty lousy and bloated which allowed AVG to shine in a market struggling to mature. It's hard to compare detection results so long ago but I do recall that it wasn't exactly difficult to get riddled with a bunch of spyware because AVG's spyware protection was zero until the purchase of Ewido. Luckily Spybot was there to save the day *applause*.

But yeah I haven't used AVG since those days. There hasn't been enough compelling features or positive changes to make me look twice. The market place is incredibly competitive for FREE products (can you believe it?) and AVG isn't the one to rule them all anymore. Oh have times changed in a blink of an eye.

Are you two testing with the free version of AVG? And which component seems to be catching the malware? I couldn't figure out if AVG free had an http scanner or not- or if the file guard was catching everything. If you are using the Internet Security is the ID Protect catching much?

    thanks
