I to am looking forward to 1.2 beta. This should be sweet.

Mike one question about updates/signatures. How often do they get updated?

Mine OA is showing the following. (See SS below.)

Also, if I click on the help button shown here, it does not open?

Cheers, thanks, and keep up the good work.

The Help button is dead at the present time. Mike says it will be active soon.

I was not referring to a window opening up during the checking of updates. Sorry if that confused you peeps.

I was curious as to how often updates occur.

The "window" I was referring to was a bad analogy. Basically if I click on the Help button shown in that SS, nothing happens.

    Anyone else have this problem?

EDIT: Since you edited your post, it's now a moot point. :p

Thanks for the heads up about the help button. :)

How come yours doesn't have the 15 day trial note on dialog?

This would indicate that it's a full version.

    Hi Jag,

Ok - in OA things are a little different - we have a whitelist of safe applications, so it is less important to have daily or weekly updates as the whitelist grows.

However, you will notice that in OA you can set your update frequency down to 1 hour. The idea is that when new HTTP exploits, etc are added that we will be able to roll them out quickly. Similarly, as we get fingerprints of malware we'll start to be more agressive about rolling updates out.

Over the next few weeks, we'll be classifying more and more apps. The reason is this - while OA stops every app, potentially, it is important for inexperienced users to try and give them some guidance. There are a couple of initiatives we're looking at here but I'll demonstrate it in a week or so, rather than talk about it today.

Starting on Tuesday, we'll probably go with daily updates just to get the classifications out there as soon as possible after we've done them.

    Hope that helps

    Mike

Mike, have you ever thought about applying for your own Forum here at wilders ? (don't know what their rules are to get one - just curious).

I've asked the question, and I received a "not at the moment" response back with a friendly explanation of the "and here's why" from LowWaterMark.

Suffice to say that the reasons given were fair and reasonable in light of the mission of Wilders and the relatively young age of OA, so for the moment we'll retain our own OA specific forums at www.tallemu.com and I'll continue to lurk in this thread.

    Hi Mike,

You might want to consider starting a new thread with the official release of OA. Most of this thread will be out-of-date and new users would probably want to know more about the final release rather than all of the events leading up to the the latest release. Just a suggestion.

    Regards,
    Rich

    @Mike- A question and a suggestion
QUESTION- Does OA's updater update to the latest OA version, or must we do version updates manually?

SUGGESTION- It would be very helpful if tallemu's website had a "history" tab, so that we could determine exactly WHAT is the latest version of OA. I searched tallemu for quite a while & was unable to locate such information.

Hmmm... isn't that the sort of thing that sent TDS to the tullies?

    Hi Bellgamin,

Good question - Online Armor's updater will automatically update all of the components of Online Armor, including the main program, help file, supporting files and the threat database.

When Online Armor checks it's update status it compares the versions of the files on your computer with the "latest and greatest" on the website. Any new files are downloaded, verified and replace the existing ones.

I think I may get asked this more than once, so I have made a new FAQ entry on the site http://tallemu.com/index.php?area=support&sub=faq

If you click the Manual Update button, and it seems that nothing happens, it means you are up to date. I know this is not the best way of doing it - so I'll find an appropriate place on the site to put it.

    Cheers

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

How about a small little pop-up window which says something like "Your Online Armor product definitions are up to date" or "You currently have the latest definitions and version of Online Armor"? Something similar to when I manually check for updates to McAfee:

    Just a thought....

    Hey JR

That sounds like exactly what we should do!

I thought all beta versions are trials. There is no difference other than I have 15 days to trial a beta?

    Hi xxxx

OA is out of Beta now and released, so we only issue 15d trial keys. Previously, beta testers received 30-60d keys, as many as were needed - after all, we needed to check key expiry worked properly as well.

    Hi Mike.

I just received my first fake banking email which was trying to imitate a bank listed in my protected sites.
OA gave a warning stating a dangerous email had been blocked.
I still received the email but it had a red band at the top with the following warning: “This mail has potentially dangerous content”.
I was highly impressed with this, but a bit confused that OA had stated the email had been blocked yet it still arrives. Maybe the wording should be changed slightly in the initial warning?

I think we will change the warning so that it says OA has detected a dodgy email. (obviously, worded a bit more carefully than that) and not state what action resulted.

We have the option to delete or warn on emails. However, some businesses email each other online banking receipts - and sometimes that triggers one of the spoof rules. So, we felt it was better to err on the side of caution and configure the rules to add the warning band, rather than delete.

Edit: PS... if you happen to be friendly with your bank, you may want to mention this neat feature of OA to them ;)

looks like beta to me since if froze my entire desk requiring a hard reboot. This has nothing to do with published known issues.
