I moved to it and this time it worked out nicely. Everything's set up. I had to fix up my AppArmor profile for Pidgin and I did have a HUD crash.

Otherwise it's great. There is now an "aero snap" like feature built in, which is honestly the biggest thing I missed from Windows.

MyUnity is now built in as well, allowing for Unity configuration (you can make the bar autohide, which is what I do and you can set it as small as 32px wide.)

The software center went from taking at least 12-15 seconds to about 1.

I think this is really great. Anyone else given it a try?

I was using it until I got some weird unity crash. Basically unity took 'X' with it and I never got it back up, the entire thing ended in a kernel panic and me switching back to 11.10

Yeah, not surprising. This is the first beta release, right?

It's been surprisingly stable for me this install.

Looks like I would have no choice but to move for my brand new AMD quad core desktop with ATI 6620g video card. 11.10 won't boot or install unless nomodeset is set but even after install and editing grub, I get blank screen. Currently its running Chakra as it has newer driver open source driver which recognizes the card.

I've been using it for a few weeks. Running sweet as a nut, Unity is actually growing on me too.

I really like Unity. I don't know why anyone would prefer Gnome to it. When I use Gnome I feel like I'm back on XP, it's dull and I can barely do anything with it. Unity adds an easy-to-use search, snapping, and a few glitter/pretty things.

Are you talking about Gnome 3?

No, Gnome 2. Gnome 3 is a big improvement. I prefer Unity though.

Ok, yeah, I agree. Gnome 2 is boring. 3 is much nicer. I actually like both Gnome 3 and Unity quite a bit.

Same. Unfortunately Gnome3 was completely broken for me when I tried it (driver issues.)

I had good luck with it on OpenSUSE 12.1, pretty nicely done.
