Avast is always very popular, Avira has lost many users in this forum, not surprising given the late developments which from a marketing point of view were controversial. The real winner so far (IMO) is Eset followed by Symantec as they are not free, and buying a license is the real market test for a company. It would be interesting to know how many members from Avast and Avira are using paid versions (future polls should show paid and free versions). Norton has recovered from the bad reputation it developed in the years 2004-2006, it is almost as popular as Eset.

Actually that's not a bad idea :thumb: Like "Avast" and "Avast Free" "Avira" and "Avira Free" etc...
Those without the Free = Paid version/s of that vendor.

Agreed. Definitely two distinct markets here and both command market-share.

When I had this old computer rebuilt, the guy put both on. Both real time. With Sandboxie, they're just there doing nothing, but I'll keep them.

Now using avast! Free Antivirus with only one essential real-time shield (File system shield) installed, AutoSandbox disabled, Silent/Gaming Mode enabled, totally password-protected and a couple of other tweaks.

No impact at all on performance, perfect usability and reasonable detection rates.

In 2012 for AV polls can we have multiple choice? Many of us have a Desktop x2 or Desktop + notebook. Or we sample AVs. So I suggest two votes rather than one vote.

I think you will get a clearer picture rather than a distortion as most of us have more than one favorite and the current format means one AV will be under-represented though it too deserves recognition.

The existing poll, and the next, are multiple choice (you can select as many as you want too) but you can only vote one time.

it catches everything.....right from the nasty malware to the innocents(ccleaner, hitman pro,etc)........lot of fps....but hey at least it does not let malware slip....it's a different matter that you have to decide which ones are really fps and report it to wsa.......and there is no denying that wsa is the fastest and lightest protection available......

hi i may seem a little sad but since being hacked and losing my partner due to frequent arguements i have been on a quest to test security programmes using keygens. i know they are illegal, though i just like testing the security of the security. but i do not think i have yet found one single av that can protect itself let alone it's users. it is quite easy to activate it until 2038, may not get support but full version yes. i forgot my password and quite simply uninstalled it with a app unstall in advanced system care as i have done with several av so what is the point in protecting with password? if honest i am not overly amazed with avg as is easy to obtain a 8 year licence with their 2012 internet security but the link scanner is quite impressive and has saved me a few times when testing!

Tried & tested myself quite a free AV's. Atleast for now settled with & find good overall --

Avast Free on Win 7 64 with Windows FW & UAC enabled working great.

Comodo FW & AV with D+ enabled for self protection only on Win 7 64 with UAC enabled working great.

Trying & loving UnThreat Free, Vipre engine based, with Windows FW on XP SP3, light & working great. Looks promising & effective.

So voted for Avast, Comodo & UnThreat/Vipre.

    Thanx

By support you mean the list of virus threats right? Plus daily updates. Bet you won't last long if you switch on updates before you get a memo expressing condolences & much sympathy that the AV has unfortunately discovered that you are a victim of someone selling you a pirated copy. :D
