I also think that it is not fair to compare free AVs and paid ones (or hybrids), forking out the money is the real test for consensus, and Eset is doing very well notwithstanding its arguable performances lately.

I have been using ClamWin which is a version of ClamAV for MS Windows for years and am still feeling satisfied with it. The followings are some of its advantages and disadvantages according to my experience.

    Advantages
    1. Open Source
    2. Regular Virus Database Update
    3. Low Memory Footprint
    4. Low False Positive

    Disadvantages
    1. No On-Access Scan

Kaspersky with ThreatFire. Threatfire is FREE! :thumb: And ads an extra layer of protection, without using heavy resources!

so do you like nis2010 better? just curious. not asking for a vs b unless you want to post over at avast id love to hear what you think. i like nis2010 still and if i have a major issue with avast ill go back again before anything else at this point. though i bought 3 3 year lic's for avast with the 50% off it was a great price so i grabbed them. and the wife likes the new avast which is nice lol..she didnt like norton as much for whatever reason (she had bad past experiences with them most likely just from that)

Currentply using Kaspesky Internet Security at home and Avast, Comodo Internet Security and Nod 32 at work. Seems to me Kaspersky is the best paid sollution and Avast, the best free sollution.

Avira 9 custom install without guard, and with root kit detection and context menu (right click) scan,is as near perfect for my set-up as I can find.

It depends on what computer I use.

    Generally ESET NOD32 v 4 + MalwareBytes' AntiMalware.
I also use Gdata antivirus 2010 or Avira antivirus premium 9.x in two other different computers

I have installed PREVX safeonline on two machines of mine and it plays well with the above mentioned antivirus (it is no longer conflicting with MBAM scanning and this make me happy enough:D )

As for a scanner on demand: a-squared free is my choice (in despite of some false positives)

    Cheers
