We receive virtual cards with virus and a lor of spam with link for viruses... All in portuguese and all made by brazilian people that want to get bank data or Orkut and e-mail passwords to produce more spam and disseminate more viruses.
Every day I receive e-mail with fake information about virtual cards, security patches fro Windows, plugins for websites and pictures of sex... All fake and all redirect to viruses links. It's our reality but I think it's different in other country. Brazil is one of the first in spam and virus dissemination... It's a big $h|t... ;/

Troyan Explore is an anti-malware from my country (Argentina)
It scans at startup and/or on-demand. It can be useful to remove remnants of malware (the free version scans and generates a report for manual cleaning)
It doesn't have high detection rates, although there isn't much local malware here. As tiagozt said, the malware problem in Brazil is really alarming.
Malware is a growing problem in BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) countries.

The main team of ClamAV is based on Poland, AFAIK.
Then, you have VirIT Explorer from Italy, ViGuard from France, Sunbelt and Webroot from USA, PC Tools from Australia, Mischel Security (Trojan Hunter) from Sweden. Firecat should know more about other Indian AV vendors.
I think that Eastern Europeans should be very proud of themselves with that amount of AV vendors from there.

No not really. Reputation is important and it should not be a nationalist or country issue, who offers the best product at the best price and with the US$ going lower and lower I have concerns that I may have to pay more for out of country AV if I want it. o_O :doubt: :doubt: and :doubt: .

Excellent point. That would be more important to me. Can I understand what I am buying when I buy it. Always make sure there is an english version or a U.S. Flag on the website, :D ;)

    From India:

    Fire Anti-Virus (http://fireav.com/)
    Proland Protector Plus (http://www.protectorplus.com/)
    Net Protector AntiVirus (http://www.indiaantivirus.com)
    Solo Anti-virus (http://www.srnmicro.com)
MicroWorld eScan (based on Kaspersky engine, previously had some collaboration with GDATA) [http://www.mwti.net]
    CAT QuickHeal (http://www.quickheal.co.in)

The effectiveness of all the above AVs except eScan is not up to the mark IMO. For QuickHeal, they are quick to cover the latest outbreaks but often I hear that their service is not good. eScan works well, naturally since its based on KAV engine :). It also has its own spyware detection engine which doesn't seem to really do anything.

Anyway all Indian AVs are lacking in some way IMO, be it features, or performance, or the implementation of features. eScan and QuickHeal are two full-featured, easy to use products but even in these two you may occasionally find a few quirks that just shouldn't have been there. eScan is also a lot costlier than any other Indian AV for domestic market, I could rather go and buy BitDefender or AVG online at a cheaper long term price than eScan :)

Kaspersky and other vendors who using their engine and virus database will get high detecion rate in sometimes, but not always. For example, detection to Banker,is not good indeed, though you may see kaspersky can catch them when submit to VT and etc.In Brazil,"BIG" size Banker, about 10MB right?:D I think currently to the signature based AV,maybe Nod32 is better to those new modified threats.

FYI,sometimes I got Banker.Gen detected by Chinese AV from VT to your Bankers.:p

You're wrong... Avira and Kaspersky detects about 95% and 90% of brazilian malware while NOD32 detects about 10%. ESET is not ready to fight against brazilian malware and they ignore the samples that we send. For tht reason I stopped sending samples to ESET in the last year. I tried again in 2007 but they ignored again... They say that trojan banker or trojan downlaoder from Brazil are not so significant to be added fast to database ( I have an e-mail from ESET with these words). They add many years or weekends after...
The bankers and downlaoders here are about 100KB in size... and people put it on russian servers to difficult removing the infected files. When so many AVs detect the viruses they change some code and use the same link on russian server... and many AVs won't detect the new code... Kaspersky and Avira always pu the sigantures of samples imediatelly... it's the reason because we trust in these AVs here.

Mainly malware of brazilian must be Bankers.:)

Of curse I have seen some smaller Banker from China, but to Brazil's Banker,What I received were so large, their common file size are serveral MB.Sure, it's downloaders are smaller, but only the downloader.

Maybe, they have to add these signatures.:D

    Thanks for the info, Mike.

Few years ago i heard about it but just as an antispyware product.
By the way, nobody has posted screenies of it in the av screenshots thread yet (any member using it? :D ) but i see a couple of images in their webpage though, i wonder what its systray icon looks like.

I found some screenies in their website.
But Ominiquad AV seems to be a re-branded QuickHeal AV: their GUI are so similar ... (may be the same sw ;) )

But some times ago, I remember OQ GUI was different from actual.

    Best regards.
    Mike
