Antivirus AND Anti-spyware?

Is it necessary to use an anti-spyware program in addition to an antivirus program?

 

Using Spywareblaster, Spywareguard, the Immunize-function of Spybot S&D, Firefox (no-script/adblock) and doing scans now and then with free scanners (AVG-AS, SAS, Spybot S&D) wouldn't hurt.

 

I would use both. There are great AV products that can detect Spyware, but i would rather use specialized program which is designed to detect spyware. Ihope you can make sense out of my reply.

 

That depends, what other security software do you use?
You can get a solid protection with freeware software.

 

All I use is NOD32

 

Well, I guess, that you have Windows Firewall enabled along with NOD32 realtime.
You might add Spyware Terminator (free, light realtime AS) and ondemand A2 + SAS.

 

If that's really all then also throw in MJ Registry Watcher, SSM free, Winpatrol free and Peerguardian and a good firewall and you should be covered well.

 

Make sure you have a good firewall running. I only use NIS 2007 now, which contains the firewall + AV, and has somewhat "OK" anti-spyware built in too. You can also get free programs like AVG Anti-Spyware and run on-demand scans to make sure you're clean.
