Hmmm.... must be a difference between free and premium versions:rolleyes:

I have not had any further problems with updates since the first time this happened to me, although AntiVir is set to auto update program & virus definition database?

Currently running Windows XP Home Edition and AntiVir Personal Edition Premium.
    Virus definition database V6.37.00.70, 27/12/06
    Program V7.03.00.21, 21/12/06

    Cheers,

    Thorny

Still no update fix for antivir shut down after update.I am convinced this is a little inconvenience of their own making and very clever.

Jeeze, ever thought about a large part of QA being on holidays (with christmas and stuff around...) and them not wanting to release an unQAed version which might make things worse (from an inconvenience to a major problem?) besides the problem doesn't only exist in the free version.

But it's much more exciting to assume yet another hidden agenda, isn't it... yeah I'm sure their primary objecive is to piss each and every user off personally.

Running Premium for over 6 months now and the disappearing tray icon was seen for the first time about 10 days ago. But no problems in the last 5 days.
There appears to be a lot more problems with the Free version, compared to Premium. Together with better availability of the "exclusive" Servers, and particularly if you are on dial-up, The Premium version is a much better choice. IMO, it is worth paying the extra money.

However, even on a fast internet connection, if I was using AntiVir PE Classic I would have changed to another free AV well before now!

Avira would be better off offering a 30day trial version, rather than a crippled "free" version. An antivirus that is difficult to update effectively is not effective, no matter what it's reputed detection rates.

Further, long-term problems with the free edition will not attract potential users to the paid version. Users will just switch to another AV.

And until fairly recently, you could not even obtain a fully functional trial version of AntiVir Premium. I had to "borrow" a key-file from a member here to test the Premium out before purchase!

Unfortunately AntiVir Premium is not listed on their Test License page.

But you can obtain a test key for the Suite, which is Premium and the Firewall, using the instructions here.

Why can't they make the availability of a trial version a little easier?
