AntiHook 2.5 - Stupid questions

I know nothing about what it is AntiHook does. I am running XP and ProcessGuard free. I installed Antihook yesterday as a free alternative to ProcessGuard in respect of protection from rootkits, to give it a try. ProcessGuard has since reported in the logs as follows:

Also, this morning, AntiHook was blocked from terminating the smss file.

I would like to know why Antihook wants to modify these items, and in particular, why it wants to terminate the smss file, the Windows NT session manager. I believe this is because it wants to terminate the memory of a process within this manager. Thereafter, I have no idea

My questions are:

1. It is normal or otherwise unexceptional for AH to want to modify these particular files, i.e. in order to do what it is that it does, i.e. if it is not allowed to do so, it can't do its job and there is no point in running it.

2. The termination of Smss, to a novice like me, seems more worrying. The same questions apply as in Q1, but what would the consequences be of allowing the program to terminate Smss.
