I'm trying to sort out a query raised on another, non computing, forum.
A poster there has asked if there is a recommendable AV program for this old OS.
I suggested Avast!, but someone else has claimed that Avast! on early OS, had "issues".
Any thoughts on a suitable real time AV program?
    Thanks.

Many do not believe this, BUT!

At filehippo[dot]com, you can find BitDefender Free v10 Build 247. For Win 9x/ME ONLY, you'll find that this antivirus does not have on-execution protection, but it does have the following protection for Win 9x/ME users ONLY, because they forgot to disable these in the free version:

    1) On-access scanning for email and for spyware
    2) P2P scanning
    3) Email scanning
    4) Some registry protection
as well as some other features.

When installing -- ***IMPORTANT***-- CHOOSE COMPLETE OPTION.

Update, and because of the busy servers, you might have to download the update and install it by hand: unzip the cumulative update with the option to overwrite the files in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Softwin\BitDefender Scan Server\Plugins

    Now you're ready to go.
