I'm using the latest version of Zone Alarm Pro 6. Now if I open my ZA, choose Firewall than Zones tab, I get something in there call a Loopback adapter followed by its IP address.

What is a loopback adapter and is this normal ?

The loopback adapter, 127.0.0.1 or also referred to as localhost is normal and a means for your system and applications to communicate with themselves locally. These communications do not leave your system.

I've reinstalled a previous release of Zone Alarm (55.094.000) and it doesn't use the Loopback Adapter , however if you LOCK the internet connection whilst communicating with a website , the earlier release of Zone Alarm gives a message that 127.0.0.1 is being prevented from connecting to the internet and my guess this is actually a type of 'pinging' , and it's introduction in a possibly co ordinated way with recent product upgrades seems to be causing my obsolete ME98 system to hiccup quite a bit ,
