Cryptocurrency exchange Binance suspended its blockchain network Friday after hackers made off with more than $100 million worth of its BNB token.

Binance said a cross-chain bridge linking with its Binance Smart Chain (BSC) was targeted, enabling hackers to move BNB tokens off the network. So-called cross-chain bridges are tools that allow the transfer of tokens from one blockchain to another.

The company said it had worked with transaction validators to pause creation of new blocks on BSC, suspending all transaction processing while a team of developers investigates the breach.

Hackers leak personal info allegedly stolen from 5.7M Gemini users

Gemini crypto exchange announced this week that customers were targeted in phishing campaigns after a threat actor collected their personal information from a third-party vendor.

The notification comes after multiple posts on hacker forums seen by BleepingComputer offered to sell a database allegedly from Gemini containing phone numbers and email addresses of 5.7 million users.

The Gemini product security team published a short notice that an unnamed third-party vendor suffered an "incident" that allowed an unauthorized actor to collect email addresses and incomplete phone numbers belonging to some Gemini customers.

As a result of the breach, customers of the crypto exchange received phishing emails. The goal of the attacker has not been disclosed but such access to accounts and financial information is typically what threat actors are after.

The notification comes after multiple posts on a hacker forum offered to sell a database allegedly from Gemini containing phone numbers and email addresses of 5.7 million users.
An early attempt to monetize the database was in September. The author did not mention how fresh the info was but asked for 30 bitcoins (about $520,000 at the current exchange rate).

3Commas Admits It Was Source of API Leak That Led to Hacks

A group of traders last week said that $22 million worth of crypto had been stolen through compromised API keys from the trading platform 3Commas. On Wednesday, 3Commas admitted it was the source of that API leak.

The announcement came after an anonymous Twitter user obtained around 100,000 API keys belonging to 3Commas users and published it online.

3Commas had initially insisted there was no security issue on its end, and co-founder Yuriy Sorokin repeatedly suggested on Twitter that a phishing attack caused users to give up their data.

But on Wednesday, Sorokin tweeted:

“We saw the hacker’s message and can confirm that the data in the files is true... We are sorry that this has gotten so far and will continue to be transparent in our communications around the situation."

3Commas is a platform that lets users link multiple crypto exchange accounts—such as those kept on Binance—to automated trading software. This is all done via APIs (application programming interfaces), the standardized mechanisms that enable separate software components to communicate with each other and perform tasks.

CZ added that users should disable their API keys in 3Commas. This is what 3Commas is now recommending as well.

“As an immediate action, we have asked that Binance, Kucoin, and other supported exchanges revoke all the keys that were connected to 3Commas,” Sorokin tweeted.
