Officially called Android 10, the next major version of Android launched September 3, 2019. The Android 10 update began rolling out to all Pixel phones, including the original Pixel and Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 3a XL.

Update 1/30: Despite the fact that the S10 series has all but been updated, the Galaxy S10 5G has been left out in the cold in the US. However, the Android 10 rollout appears to have started for those on T-Mobile in the US. Firmware version G977TUVU3BSL5 is now rolling out to the superfast smartphone right now (via SamMobile). It may be worthwhile checking if you haven’t already.

Update 1/29: Good news for US Note 9 owners as it appears the Android 10 rollout has started according to SamMobile. The software version for this Android 10 update is N960USQU3DTA4, however, it’s worth noting that this may change depending on your local carrier. It’s also great to see that the January 2020 security patch is included in the update.

After some hints, an updated roadmap, and extensive beta program, the Android 10 update is now rolling out for the Samsung Galaxy S9 with Germany and those on Verizon’s Xfinity network in the US first in line.

The update brings with it the stable One UI 2.0 update which we’ve taken a closer look at on the Galaxy Note 10+ in recent weeks. Considering that a very recent roadmap hinted at a February release in the Netherlands, getting Android 10 a few days early feels like a gift.

Confirmation has come from Reddit, with posters in the US and Germany sharing information on the Android 10 upgrades they’ve received on their Galaxy S9 and S9+ devices. This is especially great news for those in the US, as often we see Exynos hardware get updates ahead of Snapdragon models. It also is a big hint that we’ll see the “big four” US carriers start rolling out their own localized update versions.

The Android 10 update is now rolling out for the Android One-powered Nokia 7.2.

Launching at IFA 2019, the impressively premium Nokia 7.2 shipped with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box but during the launch keynote, HMD Global confirmed that it would be one of the first in line to get the full OS upgrade. It has just made it as per the original Q1 timeframe that HMD Global touted at the turn of the year.
The update was confirmed by Nokia’s chief product officer Juho Sarvikas on his official Twitter account.

However, the update is heading out in an incremental fashion, which means you may have to wait for it to reach your device.

Samsung's pricey foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold, didn't quite get a premium treatment as fas as Android 10 update is concerned. The update finally started rolling out for LTE variants of the $2,000 smartphone last week. The Galaxy Fold 5G is now making the big jump as well.
Samsung is currently rolling out the Android 10 update for the Galaxy Fold 5G in the UK.

That still isn't a reason enough for such a long delay, though, given the price users have paid for it. It's $2,000 price tag warrants the top position in Samsung's priority list for software updates.
Nevertheless, the update is now rolling out and we hope it'll be available for users across the globe fairly quickly. You should get a notification when the update becomes available for your Galaxy Fold 5G.

Sony released the mid-range Xperia 10 and 10 Plus phones slightly over a year ago, and the devices were set to receive Android 10 sometime in "early 2020."

There are only a few reports of Android 10 rolling out to Xperia 10 owners, with most of them coming from Russia and Europe, so the rollout still seems to be in the early stages. In addition to all the usual Android 10 stuff, like improved privacy, new navigation gestures, and a universal dark mode, Sony's update also includes the March 2020 security patch level.

Samsung Galaxy A20 and Galaxy A20s Android 10 updates roll out with One UI 2.0

Samsung kicked off its Android 10 update rollout with the Galaxy S10 series in October last year. The company then went on to update its other premium phones including the Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy S9 series, Galaxy Note 9 series. Samsung even released a roadmap detailing various mid-range and budget smartphones it had planned to update to One UI‌ 2.0.

The Galaxy A20 started receiving its One UI‌ 2.0 update late last month and since then, the update has gone live in multiple countries including Russia, Vietnam, Chile, and the Philippines.
The Galaxy A20s is also getting the One UI 2.0 based Android 10 update in select markets.

It might no longer be named after a dessert but owners of OnePlus’ older phones are surely getting a sweet treat. Although already beyond the customary two-year support period, the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T have been promised to get one more gift before they reach EOL. That gift is finally arriving in the midst of these uncertain times with the surprisingly quiet rollout of OxygenOS 10 stable to these phones.

OnePlus actually dropped the good news last October when it revealed its schedule for rolling out Android 10 to its phones.
Someone from the community forums, however, posted a screenshot showing the stable update available for download. It also shows the nearly 1.9GB download size so best to prepare for when it officially arrives.

OnePlus definitely deserves some praise for taking a road less taken when it comes to updating devices older than two years. More than just bringing fancy new features, it not only ensures that these phones are not arbitrarily made obsolete but that they are also protected against the latest security vulnerabilities.

The charts, which Google updated monthly until 2018, also served as a window into the problem of Android updates. In fact, Apple, during keynotes, would use often Google’s own data as a contrast for how impressive their own update percentages are.
To help continue the time-honored tradition of speculating on the success of Google and OEMs to get each Android version to devices, we’ve created a new web app that displays the most recent pie chart of Android version distribution, sourced from Android Studio, as well as historical charts dating back to 2010. Now you can easily watch as each version of Android enters and leaves the charts, and yearn for the old days when the most recent version of Android could have over 30% of the global market share — though this was only due to a far less diverse market of devices at the time.

[Update 06/27]: If you’re a Tab S4 owner in the US, we have some good news as Samsung has confirmed that the Android 10 update complete with One UI 2.1 is now rolling out (via SamMobile). It’s also coming with the June 2020 security patch and arrives as build number T830XXU4CTF5 for those of you hoping to get some Android 10 action.

At around 1.5 to 2GB in size, this is a whopping update and has an extensive changelog to match. You’ll get the new Android 10 gestures, improved Dark Mode, updated icons and colors, smoother animations, enhanced camera app experience, plus a literal boatload more on top.
Fans and owners of the Tab S4 and Tab S5e will undoubtedly be happy to see that they will soon be getting Android 10 running on two of the few Android tablets that we can recommend.

Google finally reveals how many devices are on Android 10, and it’s not bad

Over the past year or so, Google has been very quiet when it comes to releasing data on how many devices are running each version of Android. Today, though, the company finally released some hard data when it comes to Android 10 distribution numbers.
In the graph below, you can see for yourself how many devices are using Android 10. You’ll also be able to see that it has surpassed the adoption rate of Android 9 Pie, Android 8.1 Oreo, and the original Android 8.0 Oreo.

This chart is a clear representation that Google’s various efforts to increase the adoption of newer Android versions are working. These efforts include things like Project Treble, Project Mainline, and simply putting pressure on Android OEMs to be better.

Thanks to these efforts, the Android 10 distribution rate was 28% faster than Android 9 Pie over the first five months of the operating system’s stable launch. Google Says Android 10 was on 100 million devices at that time.

Google’s most recent reporting of overall Android device numbers said that there are 2.5 billion active phones, tablets, [...] it’s a safe estimate that Android 10 is likely running on over 15% of all Android devices

Custom ROMs are no longer as popular as they once were, but they still have their place in the Android world. Here's an example: the OnePlus One, a phone that came out in 2014, will soon be able to run stable Android 10 by way of LineageOS 17.1.
Odds are that not many of you are still using them as your daily drivers, but if you have one in a drawer somewhere, it might be worth flashing LOS 17.1 on there just for the hell of it.

To be clear, the build isn't available for download just yet, but the OnePlus One and its sweet "bacon" codename have appeared on the LineageOS GitHub. We'll be sure to update this post when the download becomes available on the OPO's LineageOS download page.

Fairphone has just released an Android 10 update for its modular smartphones, the Fairphone 3, and Fairphone 3+.

The Android 10 update, version FP3 3.A.0033, is 1.24GB and comes with the July security patch. Fairphone decided not to highlight some of the changes with the Android 10 update, but some users reportedly noticed a new homescreen background and option for night mode. It also comes with much lower minimum screen brightness, as well as an instantaneous shot for the camera app. Users also confirmed that the Android 10 update fixed the existing 1-minute-delay on sending SMS on the LTE network.
