AmazonFresh, one of two grocery delivery services Amazon offers in the US, is expanding to three new cities. Starting today, residents in Houston, Minneapolis and Phoenix can get groceries delivered to their homes from Amazon in two hours or less.

To access AmazonFresh, you'll need to pay $14.99 per month on top of your Prime subscription. The minimum for free delivery is $35, otherwise, it's $9.99 per order. Customers can pay an additional $7.99 for faster, one-hour delivery.
In Houston, Amazon will also deliver beer and wine to select customers. If you have an Alexa-enabled smart speaker in your home, you can use the digital assistant to order products through AmazonFresh as well.

Outside of today's expansion, AmazonFresh is available in 15 other cities: Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C.

Amazon is expanding its online grocery business to India as part of its plans to grow in the fast-growing market, the India-focused publication Economic Times reported Thursday.

Amazon Fresh will be available to customers in Bengaluru on August 23 through its main India website and app, according to the Times, and it will later be rolled out to Mumbai, Delhi/NCR and Hyderabad. Amazon India’s director of category management Siddharth Nambiar told the Economic Times that Amazon Fresh groceries will be available for delivery to customers within two hours.

Despite the current economic slowdown, Amazon says that it is ready to invest more in its India business. The US-based ecommerce platform said that it will be focussing on long-term goals instead of getting distracted by the short term situation such as the current economic condition of the country.

Agarwal also said that the Indian customers love to select products for great value and convenience, and so far Amazon has provided them with both.
Amazon has been trying to get Indians on board by constantly localising its products. The company has so far spent $5.5 Bn on its Indian operation, including $500 Mn on food retail.

Recently, Amazon has set up its new 9.5-acre campus, its largest facility globally, in Hyderabad. The campus will house 15K employees in India.

Today, the company announced that it would make Amazon Fresh — the fresh food delivery service it now offers in some 2,000 cities in the US and elsewhere — free to use for Prime members, removing the $14.99/month fee that it was charging for the service up to now.

Alongside free delivery, Amazon is giving users one and two-hour delivery options for quicker turnarounds, and it’s making users’ local Whole Foods inventory available online and through the Amazon app.
Prime members who were already using Amazon’s grocery delivery services — either for Amazon’s own-branded service or to get Amazon-owned Whole Foods shopping delivered — will continue to get these, now free.

“Prime members love the convenience of free grocery delivery on Amazon, which is why we’ve made Amazon Fresh a free benefit of Prime, saving customers $14.99 per month,” said Stephenie Landry, VP of Grocery Delivery, in a statement. “Grocery delivery is one of the fastest growing businesses at Amazon, and we think this will be one of the most-loved Prime benefits.”

Amazon India's four year old grocery delivery app Prime Now — which launched as Amazon Now in 2016 — is all set to shut down, as it failed to grow in the way that Amazon had hoped.
Prime Now will be replaced by Amazon Fresh, as a part of the main Amazon app. Originally introduced in August last year in India, Amazon Fresh was initially serving only select pin codes in Bengaluru. However, the company has now expanded it to six cities.

Amazon currently offers two-hour deliveries through Prime Now, but according to the Amazon employee that spoke to Gadgets 360, this feature will be moved to the regular Amazon app for certain items — essentially the ones that will be available through Amazon Fresh. This will come into effect after the company announces the update officially, which is expected to happen soon after the COVID-19 lockdown comes to an end.

Starting today in London, Amazon is making its grocery delivery service, Amazon Fresh, free for Prime users. The Seattle firm aims to roll out the service across the UK by the end of 2020, as many have switched to buying essentials online due to coronavirus-related lockdowns.

The service, available on Amazon's UK website, can be used to deliver meat, seafood, snacks, and other household essentials, the retail giant stated. It offers delivery in two-hour windows on orders over £40, with no shipping fee for Amazon Prime members.

Previously, the minimum order value was set at £40, which has now been lowered to £15. The press release read:
"For the first time, Prime members in around 300 postcodes across Greater London and the South East (including London, Surrey, Hampshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire) can do their weekly shop on Amazon Fresh, with incredible local produce, favourite brands and artisan products, included in the cost of Prime membership."

Amazon will start charging delivery fees for Fresh grocery orders that are less than $150, in a move it said will help keep prices low on its services.

Beginning Feb. 28, Prime members who want home delivery from Amazon Fresh will incur a $9.95 delivery fee for orders under $50, while orders between $50 and $100 will include a $6.95 delivery fee, and orders between $100 and $150 will carry a $3.95 delivery fee, the company said in a note to customers viewed by CNBC. Only Prime members can use the delivery service, although anybody can shop at an Amazon Fresh grocery store.
