Hello, I have just run rkhunter under manjaro (kde: Plasma) and noted some warnings. Are these anything to worry about, or just false positives. I paste the whole output below. Sorry about the wobbly data, but I cant see a code tag Code: [andrew@Dell-pc ~]$ sudo rkhunter -c [sudo] password for andrew: [ Rootkit Hunter version 1.4.6 ] Checking system commands... Please check the log file (/var/log/rkhunter.log) [andrew@Dell-pc ~]$
The information in the rkhunter.log is slightly more meaningful. My recommendation is not to run the tool if you're not fairly confident with Linux. Also, you can safely ignore those warnings. Among others: https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/chkrootkit-lkm-warning.html https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/chkrootkit-suckit-message.html Mrk
I want to run the tool, and learn from the results. I have rkhunter from my repository, but chkrootkit is not available. I will need to find a reliable download site (probably the chkrootkit site, or its repository). A comparison will help me eliminate false positives. I will check your links and hope that they provide a list of false positives. Regards
Someone edited this post and intruduced the code - thank you. I could not see the tags. I assume that you simply put the data between Code: Regards
I have found a way to read the log file: sudo cat /var/log/rkhunter.log. As you say, more information is available. It appears that some of my files have been replaced by executable scripts. I wonder how and why they wer replaced. I can only think that during one of the updates the files may have been replaced
The updates are the most likely thing. Really, no reason to sweat it. If you really want to, you can check the update history and check which packages were updated. But that's just a brain exercise. Mrk
Yes. I can read the pacman.log (using sudo and cat). Out of interest, are the pacman.log and the rkhunter.log overwritten whenever there is an update (pacman), or, whenever rkhunter is run? Regards
