My apologies if I posted this in the wrong category. My Dad has a H/P Pavillion with the 98 operating system.I have d/l'ed & installed NOD32 and Sygate firewall. He hasn't updated anything in regards to the o.s. or the IE browser.(He has a new-found interest in the internet after taking some basic computer classes)My question is:how do I update the browser and should I go all the way to version 6.0?I belive that he has IE4.0!A friend with the same system upgraded to 6.0 a long time ago.I have the idea that I can do this thru the Microsoft update feature, but I seldom use that and this is different than my XP home o.s.Any tips or advice?TIA for any replies.

    Hi the Tester,

Of course Paul and Snowy are absolutely right on advising you to go for IE 5.5 SP2, not only because there are some often reported issues with Windows 98 and IE6.
If I may add to that. If upgrading does result in any kind of trouble or if your friend wants to go for a clean install of IE5.5 IMO this is the way to act.
    1. Download the installer for IE5.5 SP2 following this page: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/recommended/ie55sp2/default.asp after choosing the correct language.
    2. Download IERadicator
    3. Close all IE and OE windows while maintaining your internet connection
    4. Run IERadicator to remove IE completely
    5. Run the installer for IE5.5 (for this you need the internet connection)
    6. Reboot on the prompt of the installer

    Hope this helps,

    Pieter

Hey.I thought I'd let you all know that everything went great!I downloaded and installed 5.5,updated Windows 98 with all the critical updates/SP's except that IE6 SP1!I had to look around Windows Update site for the IE5.5 SP.But it all worked better than I expected.I like that browser better than IE6.And I am really glad that you directed me to IE5.5.I had considered going for the whole update package. You spared me a major headache IMO.
