Could swear I saw Reader have an icon prompt about an update in the toolbar today when I started up the computer.

The official Adobe Blog post on this out-of-band update is here * The Adobe Security Bulletin is here.
What remains to be seen is how much grief it will be for home-users to accomplish this, and this is to happen on Patch Tuesday
A word to the wise, would be to patch your Computer, visit your Friendly Security Forum first to see what issues that Adobe patche(s) may or may not have caused and decide how to go forward.

    Related: from Rmus

    * Note that updating via the URL http://get.adobe.com/reader/ yields a Google Toolbar third party software offering, users are reminded to opt out of this assuming you don't want the added annoyance of a toolbar.

The best way of obtaining the update(s) correctly with the least amount of issues would be to open your current installed copy of Adobe Reader, check on Preferences, check for updates.

This, though re-introduces Adobe annoyances to MSCONFIG as detailed in the two URL's cited here, here These are both user choice

We are done until next time.

Thanks for the post, Ron. !

    Hi :)

Do the updates for Adobe Reader include the updates for.. Adobe Air - & - Acrobat.com? o_O
    Coz...
When I installed Adobe Reader 9 on my laptop... Adobe Air - & - Acrobat.com .. Came With It!

    I wasn't asked if I wanted... Air - & - Acrobat
I wasn't even able to opt out of them
    Don't know what they are!
    Air - & - Acrobat.com
Just sit there doin Nowt ... Coz I don't know what I'm supposed to do with them

    Can I uninstall them?

Because of these Forced extra installs... I'm still using Adobe 8 on my desktop computer.
Of Course... Fully Updated Adobe 8

    Thanks!

Looking at their download page, you appear to be right. http://get.adobe.com/reader/

I don't see any way to opt out of the additional programs.
