Right after upgrading Adobe Reader X in my relative's Windows 7 system, Windows Update no longer worked, and it presented an error code 80072f78.

It was also not possible to visit, from what I could discover, some Microsoft websites over HTTP.

So, make sure you download this Microsoft Fix It tool before updating Adobe Reader: -http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/1/3/913B0797-F3A4-4135-9CF8-E6FD548E3CD8/MicrosoftFixit50123.msi

Just in case. After applying the fix, everything went back to normality.

I didn't go further, so I don't know why exactly Adobe Reader's update screwed Windows Update...

    Hi berryracer

The problem is caused by the file system transaction log being corrupted, [Transactional Resource Manager].

Can be fixed with the Command "fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\" [ or wherever the OS is installed i.e. D:\ ?] [will clean the transactional metadata on the next mount [reboot]] and rebooting and then doing Windows Updates.

    Take Care
