    Hi,

    That advertisement at the bottom of the site was quickly removed. Well, I don't see it anymore. I didn't contact Dmitry about it.

    I see at the Changelog site that version 7.00.0011 was released on 02 May 2016.

    As for:
    I don't know what the reason for this is. I have mine set for that extension for a long time as CRC48 , but I have made more changes manually. I have to think about it. Maybe I change it back to my current setting when I install version 7.00.0011 .

    Thank you, Kent!

    PS:
    Hmm, this "Updated compromised keys list" doesn't sound too good. Hacked (I hope not); cracked or keygens (or whatever you call it; I hate these kind of things)?

    Hello Jan,

    You are most welcome ;) !

    I wondered about that also and assumed it had to do with pirated keys (whether once legitimate that had been made public or from keygens/cracked versions). I also dislike things like this as it just makes it worse for the honest folk (whether the developer just wanting to be paid for his work or the customer that just wants a good product for a fair price).

    I use AdInf every day to check file integrity. Each day, ADinf takes a snapshot of my computer, and compares it with the previous day's snapshot. It then reports any & all changes made to yesterday's snapshot in compliance with how the user (me, in this case) has configured it. Its snapshot uses CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Code) hashes to compare the files in each snapshot. It has optional CRCs from 16 up to 48 plus LAN-64. I use CRC-48. This comparison of the two snapshots lets me see what has changed. It takes me only a minute or less to eyeball each report.

    In addition to giving me a lengthy report of ALL changes, AdInf gives me the option to require a special alert about certain types of especially suspicious changes, as shown in the screenshot below.
    ScreenHunter_01 Aug. 03 13.31.gif

    I have a few questions about this, so I hope someone might have some comments to offer. Namely:

    As to instances where a file has been changed but its date/time stamp has NOT been changed --
    Is this something a nasty might do -- change a file but not change its date/time stamp?
    If so, I wonder why the nasty would do that?

    Notice that I have flagged AdInf to report ANY change to the MBR. On my laptop, AdInf has been reporting MBR changes with a frequency of about once every 4-5 days. I have lots of security layers & scans with Webroot & Housecall say I'm clean, so... what kind of activities, during my daily computer usage, could be causing these somewhat frequent MBR changes?

    AdInf differentiates between "Master Boot Record" and "boot-record" (2 separate check boxes for Adinf's configuration). What is the difference?

    Hi Bill,

    A few quick replies for now if you don't mind.

    I would suggest that your thread would be merged with the existing thread for ADinf32 :
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/adinf32-version-4-19-08-feb-2015.375574/

    Could you go to the ADinf32 Helpfile and there go to the page "Preliminary analysis settings".
    That page shows the screenshot you posted and, as it says, it gives this option: "Point and click elements in the picture below to see explanation".
    And it gives also the option to further click on things (like for example MBR) for some explanation.
    It may not be the complete answer you're looking for, but it does give some explanations. Due to health issues I have to leave it to that for now.

    It's unfortunate that the thread about ADinf is tucked away in Software & Services. IMO it should be under the anti-malware forum.

    File Integrity Checkers -- I mean the big, enterprise-grade programs -- are routinely used by many computer centers as a component of their security set-up.

    File integrity checkers can find evidence of infections that otherwise have managed to effectively conceal themselves from other security layers. Thus, a file integrity checker, especially when used together with imaging software, is a very very powerful security app!

    For home users, ADinf is a user friendly, low cost, low impact, very speedy file integrity checker. As such, ADinf is a security app -- nothing more, nothing less. Sad to say, many potential users are very unaware of the purposes & value of file integrity checkers, partly because they have been relegated to a miscellaneous forum like Software & Services.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Thank you very much FanJ. I shall pray that you feel better, then better yet, then better of all.
    Grace & peace to thee & thine,
    Bill
    First of all: Thank you very much Bill for your kind and warm words and your best wishes!
    Back in the old days, when I was composing the original thread about ADinf32, it was decided to have the ADinf thread here in "Other sofware & services". Let's keep it here.
    We should be aware that ADinf lets you know about a file change after it happened. And even more important: it is the user who has to decide whether a change is legitimate or not.
    It's a few years ago that I had contact with Dmitry.
    Very best wishes to you too Bill, dear old friend!
    On 27 January 2019 a FAQ item was added/edited about the Help in ADinf32 for those using Win 10.
    https://www.adinf.com/
    See FAQ item # 16.
    Hello Jan,
    Dmitry is one of the best and easiest developers to contact and deal with. He has always been both prompt and courteous with me any time that I have contacted him...
