I have a lifetime license of AdGuard for Windows but haven’t been using it for at least two years because it was slowing down browsing too much. Any idea if it has improved lately? Thanks

Nope, it's the adblocker with the most impact on browsing speed in my experience.

I've used it a couple of years and haven't noticed any slowing.

Much faster than before in my experience, but not as fast as browser extension based adblockers which is expected I guess. Also, the CPU usage is much higher than browser extension based adblockers and even make my PCs fan speed up with noise that I can hear from time to time. But the development is always very active, and the devs try their best to improve the product.

I just checked CPU usage and it's 0 in W taskmanager. With a page with quite a lot ads reloading it went up to 2% for some milliseconds.

On idle, it's normal for it to be 0. Instead of reloading, try to load a site with moderate ads that you never/haven't visited in a long time. Like I didn't visit theverge dot com in a long time and just now did and Adguard reached 20% CPU usage. The same happened on another local news site. Also, I can hear my CPU fan when it reaches 15-20%. The usage percentage would vary from system to system. On a faster system, the usage should be lower.

Never visited theverge went up to 8%, but only for a time I just could see it. I can't understand your fan upload with something happening fot a few ms. I'm on a very average laptop some 7 years old.

Very interesting. Don't know why there's this massive difference. My system is newer than yours, but the CPU usage thing has always been like this for me. Maybe I'll contact their support team and see if they have any explanation.

The AdGuard for Android App has not updated the Online Malicious URL Blocklist filter since Dec 14, 2022. When i click on the Subscription URL it shows it was updated today. So which one is right and why do they have different dates.

Hmmmm. I see that also on my two devices, phone and tablet. Everything else AdGuard is JAN 23. That filter is managed by the urlhaus-filter crew and, yup, this blocklist is 01-24-2023 as of this writing. Could be just a bug in AdGuard's UI.

That said, there's that "Phishing and malware protection" mode under "Browsing security" and the ability to select the protective DNS's of Cloudfare, Quad9, et. al. I'm on AdGuard DNS for its DoQ for now.

Anyhow, you've probably noticed the JAN 20 Really Big Update...

    Most interesting, IMHO:
AdGuard for Andoid - Don't android without it!

I don't really care about the Online Malicious URL Blocklist filter date because i use the ControlD DNS with Malware and Phishing filters URL that i copy and paste from the ControlD website into The AdGuard for Android App on my phone.

Understood. Looking forward to other posts about things you don't care about. Not. And whatever you do, do not share that URL.

    Cheers.

Not able to update filters and userscripts today for AdGuard for Windows v7.12 , and the same goes for the AdGuard AdBlocker browser extension.

    Browser extension just says,
    "Error updating filters
Failed to get updates. Please try again later
    ."

    I emailed support.

    Anyone else notice this?

Looks to be working now... I was able to manually update filters and userscripts on AdGuard for Windows v7.12. And AdGuard Browser extension v4.1.53 no longer throws the error message noted above. It just says "No updates found". Thanks for the reply, Rules. :thumb:
