This dat file in this thread is supplemental to the default list.

Both are needed if you want all social buttons removed.

anyone using Ad Muncher who wants these things gone needs this dat file installed.

version 17 of the dat included.

Sorry if I wasn't clear on its purpose. :)

For what it's worth, I've gone back to using my few custom filters as this is becoming a chore. I'll wait until version 5 arrives with its multiple lists and other goodies.

    it shouldn't be a chore...

    update at your leisure...

v18 will remove a huge number of them.

update only if you start seeing any.

not really a big deal. ;)

v5.x will be alpha and then beta for awhile...

I refer to my numerous posts on pages, #1 and #2 of this thread...I decided to live with the buttons, but just continue to ignore them. Less hassle.

You guys don't seem to realize that unlike ads there's a finite number of social button companies.

Once I get them all you won't need to update for a long time.

The purpose of this thread was you would report them until I got them all.

Exactly, and remember most people ignore social buttons. In fact I haven't even noticed them until this thread brought them up. Ads are what I care about, and Admuncher is PRO at it. But I assume once the DAT file is fleshed out proper, they will disappear forever.

Also, since it is an established fact that AM boosts browsing speed significantly, I don't think it's a real hassle - and is worth it. If social buttons bother you, then follow the thread, if they do not, move on. I personally don't use any DAT file with the product and have no issue.

using this dat will make pages load even faster.

especially all those ridden with social buttons.

    which is constantly growing.

Hmmm, strange as I indeed don't have spotted this bar. However it might be blocked by Ghostery in my case. BTW, it's great addition to AM.

Confirmed. Blocked by Ghostery. I disabled it for a while, reloaded the page and the social buttons were there. After enabling it again, no bar seen :)

DoNotTrackMe is blocking that as well.

Yeah, it's something like Ghostery. It's all down to personal preferences which one to use.

Ghostery is owned by a data mining company. DoNotTrackMe is not, Albine is pretty innocuous. So if you have to choose, choose DNTME.

Although AM SHOULD be taking care of all of these things by default, right? I might have to augment AM now.. I was under the impression most of this was snagged. It appears DNTMe is not available on Opera, and I seem to be using Opera more lately since the 12.13 build. <sigh>

Why isn't AM picking this stuff up by default?

You can always disable Ghostrank and you're done. I appreciate that they are not doing it covertly, they let it on users choice to participate in Ghostrank or not. For more information please read http://www.ghostery.com/faq

Neither AM, ABP, Ghostery nor DNT can get them all. There are thousands upon thousands of known trackers out there with new companies showing up often. I don't care how good AM claims to be, you need a little extra backup in the form of either DNT or Ghostery, maybe even ABP and the anti-social or annoyances list. Pick one extra layer though, otherwise you'll just get bogged down and things will start breaking badly. You're right though, DNT isn't available for Opera unfortunately, so you're going to need to go for ABP and perhaps a list like Fanboy's or Easylist Privacy to supplement AM.
