Um..alrighty, lol. I'm still seeing your original locations and not your edit:

"Shutdown Ad Muncher and place the file in this folder:
    %APPDATA%\Ad Muncher

    Windows 7/8
    C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Ad Muncher
    Windows XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Application Data\Ad Muncher
    "

There aren't any AM folders in these locations, only in the ones I mentioned above. I can report that the social buttons at PCMag are now lined up on the side where you said they should be, lol. No idea what that was about. Now I just have to get rid of them....again :D I'm not giving in just yet.

Edit: It would likely be helpful to tell you that I'm working with a pristine install of AM. I removed it and installed it again just in case some file was borked.

    hrrm...

those are the default locations for this file.

it would only be somewhere else if you changed install settings.

the best way to find it is to search your computer for your existing file. :)

I did that, there isn't a CustomStrings file to be found anywhere, save for the one I downloaded from your post. Also, I didn't touch the install location settings. I watched the screen, it said it was going to ProgramFiles(x86), but also put a folder in ProgramData. The ProgramFiles (x86) AM folder contains AdMunch.dll, AdMunch.exe, AdMunch64.exe, AM32-33707.dll, AM64-33707.dll and Install.ini.

Are you saying now it's installing to the wrong place, on top of the filter failure issue too? I can't keep messing with this thing :D

You need to enable viewing of hidden files and folders.

    go to the place manually..

paste the location in your address bar.

I disabled hidden files long ago, and I did a search that came up empty. I just went ahead and put your file in the ProgramData AM folder and it's showing the custom filters in AM. The good news is that I'm seeing a LOT less buttons and I also understand that if they're https links you just can't do anything about that right now. Some of them indeed were. The bad news? The custom filter hits aren't showing up in the log (I made certain), and some social buttons are remaining that aren't https links and aren't 1st-party. That I do understand as you said we'd have to report each page for the most part. So, good news, with the slightly bad news of an old problem still existing.

Hey, this investigation is going better than it was at least :D

Of all the links listed in this thread, are they all clean?

And I can remove them even if they are https as long as the main page is not.

by the way, would you mind coming to the chat channel for your particular issue so we don't completely dominate this thread with off topic posts? :)

FYI admuncher files ARE NOT in C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Ad Muncher

    I have default installation, and they are in;

    C:\ProgramData\Ad Muncher

Never touched a single thing from default. (Windows 7 Ultimate)

well that folder is always there.

the other one depends if a user chooses that all users have their own Ad Muncher settings or they share settings.

If you choose to share settings then it will NOT be there.

    Sorry for the confusion.

    Normally this never comes up...

    @Bodhitree
you left the chat room before I could say anything. ;p

My file location was different because I installed for all users, my path is below (Windows 7 x64):

    C:\Users\All Users\Ad Muncher\

If this location was customized somehow I believe the proper path could be located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Ad Muncher\Install.ini

I also had to remove the first line in the original posts attachment, the line below was causing issues. My guesss without testing is it's the ©, otherwise the fact that it's not a true filter

    NSocial List version 11, © 2013

    Hope that helps someone...

I'm getting an error of "Unrecognized lines, if clicking apply, all unrecognized entries will be lost". Could it be the "NSocial List version 11, © 2013" line?

    Those are just links.

there are no privacy or security implications at all.

so no need to remove them.

    Okay, thanks a bunch :)

On the issue of the social buttons, are we..or perhaps I mistaking many of these buttons as "bad" and not just ugly but overall harmless buttons? I'll be the first to admit it's hard to tell a "good" button from a "bad" button if you're just used to either seeing them or not seeing them. I've also found out that ABP with the most aggressive lists there are do not block these buttons on Verge as of last test, so they and you must know something I obviously don't. I'd be more than happy just not having the things tracking me instead of spending way way too much time in an attempt to have them not show.

I don't mind looking at something that turns out not to be a real social button.

So report new ones as you see them.

any that actually track the user or connect to a 3rd party will be blocked. :)

I know, I just don't know the difference, lol. I see a Twitter button or a "Like" button and I go into "Orkin Man" mode. I have no idea which ones are tracking and which aren't. I have "Do Not Track Me" in place which does sometimes help as I can just drop the menu down and see the trackers on a site. Either way, I'm just going to use AM in peace, report what I can and move on, lol.
