    Hi Jeffery,

How do I configure Ad Muncher to block tracking cookies?

    Ad Muncher does this already.

    no need to do anything.

Ad Muncher prevents most tracking cookies from ever being set.

if there are any new ones or new ads, please let me know.

just wondering if your forum registration is sending out emails? i tried to sign up thru 2 disposable email accts and got no verification email sent, then tried yahoo mail and same thing.

i wanted to ask on your forum if it was possible to add all the stuff Ghostery blocks from this page:

    https://www.ghostery.com/update/all?format=json

there is someone adding this to their Privoxy setup here:

    http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-941888-start-0.html

would be nice to be able to do this and not have to add Ghostery to all my browsers. is it legal? i don't really trust Evidon anyway.

i think there is some stuff that Ghostery blocks that AdMuncher doesn't and i'd just as soon block all of this tracking junk.

not sure about the forum, I'll look into that.

as for your questions about Ghostery.

You absolutely do not need anything from them.

Ad Muncher already blocks far more than they do and does it better.

if you have Ad Muncher you do not need Ghostery.

I sometimes use feeddemon free and get these type of ads an awful lot.
Any chance AdMuncher can eliminate them please :)

    Thanks in advance :thumb:

    Panic over :)
I have blocked these using my own filtering.
The ads appear to redirect to bs.serving-sys.com.

As far as I can tell it's already blocked by default.

    thanks.

btw, i wanted to ask if there is much or any tracking going on by https yet at this point?
can https ads + tracking be stopped thru the hosts file or do we need to wait for the next version of AdMuncher?

Well due to that most annoying toolbar which pops up everytime something is blocked I have had to go back to version 4.92. I really hope there will be an option to remove it in version 5 or it will be good bye admuncher.

It should ONLY appear when a popup or alert is blocked.

clicking the page instantly dismisses it.

Also, you can disable the toolbar from appearing automatically via the Popups tab in Ad Muncher.

Options > Popups > "Display a notice when a popup or alert is blocked"

    untick that and click apply.

going back to older versions of Ad Muncher is a very very bad idea.

not least of which is that only the latest version gets filter list updates due to changes to the filtering engine between versions.

I did untick Options > Popups > "Display a notice when a popup or alert is blocked"

but the toolbar popup kept on coming up everytime.

    Something is wrong then.

    Where was this happening?

We are not getting a single user reporting this issue.

install the latest version and update to the latest filter list.

clear your cache and test that page(s) again.

if you can get consistent results, tell me where.

It would take one filter for each site, they can't be removed generically.

you can remove them generically with Proxomitron, the default filter on Proxomitron is "Stop Java Script Timers" So surely it must be possible to remove them generically on Admuncher as well?

    heh.

    yes.

    in that case you could.

you'd also break half of the internet, if not all of it.

The number one priority on my mind when I try to remove something is, "will this break things I don't want broken" and if the answer is yes, then it can't be done. ;p

yea it would break a few things but I think its a better solution than breaking a whole lot more things with using No Script and blocking java script globally. I actually haven't come across very many broken sites from proxomitrons "Stop Java Script Timers" rule.

I understand why you wouldn't want to add it into admunchers default list, but can you post a custom filter?

I just wanted to say that while using Firefox with no add ons apart from Collusion, it does create the impression you're being tracked by a large amount of sites when using Ad Muncher. I tested on sites such as You Tube and Break which has a lot of trackers and the amount of trackers that appeared was incredibly high.

Jeff, have you any explanation for why it appears to Collusion that Ad Muncher isn't blocking trackers?

they are advertisements on a lot of sites yes, those side in ad's I find most annoying. I can always use no script and block javascript but that results in more broken websites.

I haven't used it myself so I can only guess at how it works, but it's probably this.

Ad Muncher has a number of ways it can handle removing content be it ads or trackers.

I can edit the HTML directly, i remove sections of JS, I can add or modify JS, and I can remove images and iframes as well as block connections.

Depending on which one I choose to use for any specific tracker it may not remove it in a way that lets Collusion know that that tracker is actually no longer activated or running.

Ad Muncher actually is blocking it, removing it or otherwise deactivating it.

I use the best filter type for each thing I remove.

Do you have a specific example? Which tracker and what site is it found on?
