I felt the need to create this thread because Ad Muncher 50% off is headed for Off Topic Discussions (well already Off topic!) and some of its posts might be deleted.

Please feel to post on this thread if you want to discuss anything that is even remotely related to Ad Muncher here.

    Thanks

I was wondering why the mods didn't split the thread, by now...;)

Heh, I'll beat your stats soon enough Tarnak. No picture but 2,518 blocks so far and I bought the thing yesterday :D From those stats I can deduce one of three possibilities:

    1. I surf way too much.

    2. I pick the worst sites to use.

    3. Ads and tracking are this century's Bubonic Plague.

Probably, though I do surf as part of my hobbies/work as well to be fair on myself :D Actually, as far as sites go, I use some pretty "heavy" ones, so I'm not that surprised by the stats. On another note, I'll be glad when you guys can filter Https in the next release. Google has taken to using https for every search result I do and throws those stupid Google ads at me, plus other sites I use are https and force ads there as well.

Well generally i've found that the websites with most ads and trackers are news websites and tech websites.
I was curious to check how many ads and trackers Ad Muncher per page and I found almost 70 blocks for PCMag.com per page!
So which website has the most blocks by Ad Muncher ? perhaps another game ? :D

So far its PCMag.com for we with approximately 70 blocks per page. and thereby wins the title of most ad riddled website!

Hmm, try Tmz.com, PCWorld, MTV.com and Lifehacker. I think the poor cow gets a jaw ache from those :D

Is there a way to keep my AM stats or are they always going to end up being lost because I use Sandboxie and Shadow Defender?

Either that ^^ or you can add C:\ProgramData\Ad Muncher under exclusion in Shadow Defender,so that the stats remain consistent.

Does anyone know to what extent you're tracked by Ad Muncher and what they collect if anything?

Does AM work on Opera very well? I'm trying out Opera 12.12 x64 and I'm finding loads of beacons and crap in my cookie list. Cracked.com is loading them and several others are. Tmz is god awful, AM seems to just quit there. Not that I blame it, the place is nothing but embedded trackers, social BS and Flash hell. AM also seems to be slowing down some sites in both Opera, FF and Chrome. I truly believe it has more to do with blocked trackers/networks being really aggressive and trying to load anyway.

Edit: There's always the possibility that Opera has a hand in this tracking cookie/3rd party stuff too as I'm finding the browser to both not give enough options for handling such things, and quite frankly seems to be ignoring my choice.

Ad Muncher should work equally well with all browsers.

which "trackers" specifically are you talking about?

Some social media iframes and such are not blocked by default since they are quite popular.

That will be rectified in v5.x when I can make a filter set just for social junk which a user can then toggle the filter set on or off.

Keep dropping those hints about version 5.x. :D The wait for a beta 5.x series has been long coming and the wait seems not to end... Kidding aside, can you tell that I am patiently, and anxiously, waiting.....

Most of the roadblocks for v5.x are gone.

It's just a matter of finishing it and we are making progress every day.

Anyone who doesn't want to wait can contact me and I will assist them in removing any social media crap from any site.

Thanks for clarifying this for me Jeff. I just had a slight issue yesterday when downloading SecurityKissVPN, avast my av flagged up an issue and it said that Ad Muncher was downloading the file which I found a little odd.

On the other thread, I mentioned Spotify and how the adverts seemed to have gone well alas it seems that they've returned well at least they do some of time. The first advert always gets played and there is always a visual advert but both get munched and disappear for a while and then come back.

Ad Muncher reroutes traffic through itself so to a 3rd party security app it would indeed look like Ad Muncher was downloading it.

As for spotify, when an ad appears see if there is content in the retrieved urls category.

If there is (and it's from spotify) I should be able to block it.

make me a copy of the log in that case and e-mail it to me.
