    Hi,

    I have a question:

Is it possible to run a scan with Ad-Aware in Safe Mode?

I tried it on my W98SE machine, but could not get it to run.
It could very well be my fault or something on this far too told crappy machine....

If you use an USB mouse, then you cannot use such a mouse in Safe Mode (well, at least I cannot).
So you have to use your keyboard.

Well, there are no characters underlined (so no ALT+S for example), no keyboard shortcuts description either in the Helpfile for scanning.

    I've tried to use TAB.
That highlights indeed the buttons more or less, but clicking ENTER does starts nothing.
I tried that too in normal mode (I mean: not the safe mode), and then that doesn't work neither.

    So the questions:
Can Ad-Aware be used in Safe Mode for scanning?
    If so: how?

Sorry for probably very dumb questions...
Like I said: it could very well be something on my end.....

    Thanks !!!

Well, to answer my own question:
Yes, you can run a scan with Ad-Aware in Safe Mode if you use a non-USB mouse.
    I just did it ;)

Why I cannot run it in Safe Mode with an USB mouse, while only using the keyboard, is something that I don't understand.
No problem for example with TDS-3 and KAV 4.5.
It's easy to do in TDS-3 or KAV 4.5 using the keyboard, so why not with Ad-Aware?
Why are there no keyboard shortcuts in Ad-Aware?
O yes, there are some; they are described in the Helpfile when they talk about the Process-Watch interface:
    So why not for scanning?

Anyone else having the same kind of experience?
I really would like to hear your experience about it.
    Thanks !

Thanks WSFuser for your reply !

Well, I can use it in Safe Mode when I use a non-USB mouse ;)
Maybe it's only my far too old system that is causing this.
I still would have preferred that there were keyboard shortcuts available in AA ;)

That could be the case Jan....and depends on if your Bios has "USB support for input devices and USB legacy mode must be enabled."

Universal Serial Bus Devices Do Not Work in Safe Mode

    APPLIES TO
    • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
    • Microsoft Windows 98 Standard Edition
    • Microsoft Windows 95

  7. In windows 98Se you can run AdAware scans simply by using the standard windows keys. Use Tab to move from selection field to field and use the space bar as you would a click. You can use your defaults or change settings as needed.

    Hi Driveby posting,

Thanks a lot for your info ! :D

Yep, I knew about using the TAB key, but I have to admit that I didn't know about using the Space Bar (I tried the Enter key)

    It worked ! :D
Although I had some problems to see which option was highlighted by using the TAB key. But that might be due to my bad eyes...

    Thanks again !
    Regards, Jan.
