I seem to recall hearing something about this some time ago, but it seems it is for real. I wonder if this applies to LCD screens as well?

Hi Nick - I read the article and there was no mention of an LCD screen that I ccould find - there was mention of the tube style screen. It seems there is just no escaping from those who wish to snoop and collect information about our computer habits.

    Beating Tempest?

PGP's TEMPEST-prevention font is a partial solution. It is a way of displaying in fairly low contrast the text on screen. It makes for much more work for the van Eck tuner, trying to get his screen to show the text due to the low contrast.

However this only happens when viewing the encrypted message.
