    I had today's first update [10/19/05 - 02:42:42].
But couldn't just get the second one [10/19/05 - 07:02:57].

Well, no prob, by using the manual way I got it :)
And of course after that hitting "reload" in the BOClean menu.

    So all is well ;)

    But is all well?

After hitting in BOClean check for update I get again the first one (see screenie).

Maybe I'm doing something wrong o_O

I have just checked mine and times are the same as the one on your screenshot Fran.
I always check manually and reload test update o_O tried again but still the same.

    Hi Robyn and Atomas,

    Thanks for your replies !!

I was some hours off home, just came back and tried it again using BOClean's updater.
It tells me there is no update available and I still have what I showed in that screenshot.

Here are the two email-update-notices from PSC:

    1. received at Dutch time 09.13 on 19-Oct-2005

    2. received at Dutch time 13.48 on 19-Oct-2005

PS: I have send an email to Nancy.

The problem is on the servers from PSC, well that's what I guess...

I used the two links in the email to get boc12.xvu

    1: via HTTP
    2: via FTP

The file <D:\Tijdelijk_2\HTTP\boc412.xvu> has the following Checksum(s)

    MD5 - 5AAE9DD394D8B45DB5FC18EDE9F527CE
    ---------------------------------------------------
The file <D:\Tijdelijk_2\FTP\boc412.xvu> has the following Checksum(s)

    MD5 - 5340B84497FAD22364D445A49A2FB045

    Edited to add :
That folder \Tijdelijk_2\ is only a test folder created by me.

Now I'm going to compare the MD5 checksums of my file C:\BOC412.XVU
    and look what BOClean says.

    using FTP

The updater in BOClean itself uses FTP.
    BOClean says : 10/19/05 - 02:42:42
    See my previous screenshot.
    MD5 : 5340b84497fad22364d445a49a2fb045

    using HTTP
    I download manually from http://www.nsclean.com/boc412.xvu
and I put it in the right place on my machine (W98SE): C:\BOC412.XVU
    MD5 : 5aae9dd394d8b45db5fc18ede9f527ce
I look at BOClean: it still says 10/19/05 - 02:42:42
But now I hit "Reload/test update" in the BOClean menu.
    And BOClean says now : 10/19/05 - 07:02:57
    See following screenshot.

So, I think that for some reason at the moment you get different updates, depending which update way you use.

    Hi Atomas,

Have you downloaded using HTTP ?
    from http://www.nsclean.com/boc412.xvu
and put it in the right place on your system?

On my system (Windows 98 SE) it is : C:\BOC412.XVU

Well, I give up for now ;)

Somewhere somehow must have been made a little mistake.

I suppose tomorrow we'll get a new update that will fix everything :)

    Good night all !

I also can't update from within the program. When I downloaded the boc412.xvu file to my desktop and double-clicked on it, FileAlyzer popped up and I don't know how to bypass that. If I right-click on the file I don't know what I should choose to "open with" - would I choose Explorer?

I also tried downloading the file directly to C:\Boc412.xvu and told Windows to overwrite the file and didn't get the update (but I had used the ftp site.). Can I just download the file to C:\Boc412.xvu and should that work if I have the http update and have BOClean reload and test the update? I have Windows 98 and am reluctant to try this since my computer froze up a few times attempting to get this update.

    Sincerely, Libra

Edit: I have tried both sites and I am only getting the old file from each (MD5 - 5340B84497FAD22364D445A49A2FB045). I hope they get this fixed soon.

Sorry about that, folks ... the update did get put onto the server, and was checked and then after 22 straight hours, I went home. Unbeknonst to any of us here, our server folks went and moved the FTP site to a new server owing to the large increase in traffic lately and made the rash assumption that 7AM would be a good time to move it since the earlier update had been done. This had been planned for Friday and was done two days earlier than we'd expected. They hadn't expected that a second update would have been done so soon and as a result, they copied the earlier update back in on top of the newer one. That's what happened.

And because there is just SO much malware out there being released on a daily basis, we have just about all of our people here out trolling for nasties rather than watching things such as this. This was a one time move though so it shouldn't happen again. My PERSONAL apologies. I would have been on this right away had I not been sleeping and our daytime office folks don't have access to the FTP server to have made the correction. As soon as I got back in, I recopied the file onto the server.

We'll put out a very brief explanation along with the update notice later for anyone who hasn't seen this. Once again everybody, SORRY about that. Keeping an eye out for nasties as a priority is what caused us not to notice this ourselves. :(

Thanks for the information about the puzzle update.
We fully understand and appreciate the endless work you are doing in order to keep us free from anything nasty, thank you.

I have never received the e-mails with the details about each update even though I have registered copies of BOClean.
I have always puzzled about the info posted in the updates and now I read Fran's post I realise they are detailed in an e-mail.
I subscribed to the newsletter but do not have the other notices when posting the updates on our own forum.
I have to wait until detailed here o_O (just wondering)

    Hi Libra,

All is fine again with todays new update ! :D
Kevin explained what happened and it is fixed :)

Please leave that file boc412.xvu alone !
Not any need to open it with whatever program, no double-clicking etc.
Nothing like that at all !

In almost all circumstances it is by far the best to have the scheduler in BOClean to check automatically for new updates each day.

If you wish, you can check by yourself for new updates by opening the BOClean-menu (double-left clicking on its icon near the clock) and then hit "Check for Update". If there is a new update, BOClean will handle it for you.

And yes, you can also get an update fully manually.
In that case you download boc412.xvu from the PSC-site, put it in the right place (usually C:\BOC412.XVU ), overwriting the existing one, then open the BOClean-menu and hit "Reload/test update".
But if you don't feel comfortable with this way, don't use it !

    It is all explained here:
    http://www.nsclean.com/supboc.html

I hope this helps a little bit.

    Cheers, Jan.

    Hi Jan,
Thank you for your reply and advice. I seem to recall (before I had FileAlyzer) clicking on the .xvu file and a little box popping up asking where to put the file. That's what I was trying to get. In my 98 computer I eventually downloaded the file to the correct location, but since it was the wrong file, that wasn't successful. In view of that I never attempted to manually update my XP computer. I'm glad it's all fixed now. I'll be more patient the next time.
    Sincerely, Libra

    Hi Libra,

    You're welcome ! :)

That certainly goes for me ....
If I would have waited a few more hours, everything would have been fine with the next update and Nancy wouldn't have to spend time on it

    Warm regards, Jan.
