Correct me if I am wrong but A2's IDS is not equivalent to ProcessGuard's. A2's IDS appears to be a heuristic detection system as opposed to a proactive program alert/prevention system. I would appreciate it if anyone would correct me if I am wrong.

The two things are entirely different. A2's IDS is looking for 'malware-like' behaviour. PG is looking for something seeking to execute, for which permission has not previously been granted .

 

I have to assume Topper is right, and from what I've read of PG. That being said - they are similar in that they ask you to allow a program run (A2 when unusual behavior is detected only). And I don't want to be hassled - even by A2's guard, until its passed thru signatures of known malware. That way I am making a pretty good educated guess letting something run i.e. "it just passed 120 some thousand sigs, and my best friend sent it to me when i was expecting it"...

According to neowin there was a HUGE A2 update posted.........

 

It was a cumulative update to signatures.

 

Can a-squared be set up to run scheduled scans? If not are their any anti-trojan programs that can scheduled?

 

Is A-squared free a decent program? I think the only difference between free and personal is the resident protection correct?

Mostly. But version 2 is suppose to change that as well............ so....

 

How compatible is a-squared with other resident AV or Trojan scanners?

Is it compatible with TrojanHunter and AntiVir ?

 

I have run a-squared with both and no problems....

 

Version 1.7 maybe when it comes out?

 

We already have a console line scanner for Win32 and Linux and to be honest I am asking myself currenty why we haven't released it yet . It was mainly developed for internal use and for Jotti . Christian is still asleep but I will ask him later if he knows a reason not to release it and if he doesn't know a good one I will ask him to put onto the web page later this day .

Currently the scanner has a few options only:

/L to create a report
/D to automatically delete infected files
/R to rename infected files by appending ".MLW" to its name
/VL to give out a list of detected nasties

It gives back some error codes that can be processed within batch files (0 = all is ok, 1 = infections found, 255 = something went wrong).

If someone has more ideas for command line options feel free to post .

I have on old Win 98Se PC and I need to know what are the "Minimum" System Requirements for running A-Squared Personel with the "Guard" Turned 'ON' a Win 98SE PC ?

Specifically what is the "Minimum" - CPU Processor Speed, RAM MB and Hard Drive Space for running A-Squared Personal with the Real-time IDS Guard on a Win 98 SE PC?

i have found out that a2 is not a company its a group of ppl that means a2 is not that good?

either i use a2 but its never found anything and its always updated


i think they should have more ppl working on a2 that would increase the detection and as well they would have a more stable programme if they get more ppl.??

i think the next version should have a realtimeprotection for free a2..

If A2 is finding nothing on your system it is probably because you have far too many security apps and not nearly enough malware. Get rid of some of your 'security' and give the baddies a chance for a change!

@chaos- Several of the highly-regarded anti-malware programs are the products of small outfits. Prime examples (correct me if I'm wrong) include Trojan Hunter, BOClean, a-squared, & Eset. These & other small outfits are innovative, ingenious, motivated to excel, superb.

On the other hand many larger outfits are hindered by bureaucratic inertia, arrogance, and bloat. Prime examples include (correct me if I'm wrong) Symantec & Microsoft.

 

I have found that there is a zero relationship between good software and the size of the company that creates it. In fact, there appears to be an inverse relationship. It really only takes two or three developers to create a good product. More than that ... there is probably a negative impact.
