    Thanks for confirming that. :)

    Let's see. I don't have Yaw 4.0. Thousands of other users don't have Yaw 4.0 and even PC-Welt don't have Yaw 4.0. I think that's proof enough. ;)

You know the difference between "PC Welt don't have YAW 4.0" and "PC Welt don't offer it for download". I don't offer YAW 4.0 for download which doesn't mean I don't have a copy :D.

PC Welt decided not to offer YAW 4.0 (which is the reason I decided to stop YAW completely in Fev 04 cause they still own the complete distribution rights). I offered them to provide a mirror of the download for 1 or 2 days and they declined that. But if you want I can send you a copy by mail (as many others got as long as they asked ;)).

As Detox already mentioned, the thread is about the a-squared application. Not the developers, past history, and so on.

It's time to either stay on topic or close the thread.

 O.k. my two cents. A2 at least tries to move forward, an does so at an acceptable speed, yes everything may not be out at the exact time specified, but at least they try. This is more than I can say for another company who after almost (5) five years has still to produced what it indicated. So I leave it up to you, which FREE product has the better track record?

    Thanks

    Hi all,

I don't remember any project that I ever was a part of or know of (and this probably numbers in the thousands) that was ever completed on time. It is the nature of software projects, that timelimes are always underestimated because no on project member wants to say the obvious:

"I don't know why we will be late, but we always are. So whatever time you might think it will take to finish this project, just double it and you will be closer to the real date". :D

However, managing user expectations are difficult. It is difficult to say nothing - since a company wants to keep its user base (and potential user base) interested in the product. On the otherhand, the moment anything is said, the user base wants to have dates and products. It's been like that for the 30 years that I have been involved with computer development - and I don't expect it to change anytime in the future.

I guess one thing I have noticed is that companies (such as KAV) have what is called "prototype releases". Now that is interesting. Apparently, people have PCs around that they can play around with prototypes. Keeps people interested, yet no release dates are ever announced. Not a bad approach at all. In fact, it is quite brilliant.

Actually lots of companys have to meet deadlines all the time, including software ones. Some incurr penalties if they do not. Looks like non bespoke software writers get off the ( Hook ) Pun intended !

Arn't "prototype releases" another way of saying Beta ?

I would consider a "prototype" more like a "pre-alpha" release.....

Having had to write programs in the past for a major U.S. government agency, I can tell you that we had no choice but to be on schedule. My point being, don't tell me it can't be done. If I owned these companies, a deadline would be established, an if no program was presented by that time, individuals would be seeking new employment.

    Thanks

For a while i am testing the trial version of A2 i am quitte happy with it.
But i think there are a lot of False Positives. (see their forum).

And i found (only) one meself.

This is not really a problem for me, but i am very curious,
to see how fast the FP i have submitted will be resolved.

Are there any others here that found FP's ?

Again, i don't think this is really a problem, i only want to know
how fast they are gone normally.

Are you referring to an FP during an on-demand scan, OR an FP by a-squared Guard?

I have had positive-positives during on-demand scans, but never false-positives.

The Guard, however, has a foul temper and must be told *BACK off!* from time to time. ;)

I am wondering if 2.0 still require to register?

    1. becoz i cannot do a Slient Install on it.
    2. I can never get the register code to work on my PC
    3. I don't understand why a freeware need register? ( Can't someone explain. It is not only A2 does it. i have seen others does the same thing. Which i fail to understand why apart from knowing userbase. Is there any other reason?)

    Anyway... 2.0 has RTM? :D

    Hi wildman,

I consulted to the government many times over the years. My experiences with government were totally different than what you describe. So different, that I would say that my experiences were totally on the under end of the spectrum. They were not only habitually late - but in 90% of the cases (at least) the projects were never even completed. It was great for the vendors though. They always collected up-front though they never had to show a completed project. It was interesting. But I am no longer involved with consulting. Maybe nowadays they have learned to get projects done on time - like the latest IRS project.

I don't know, I was connected with an was a member of the armed forces. If any of our customers wanted specific tailored data, we had best be able to provide it to them in a very timely manner or our butts were in a sling. I don't know how companies today are ran, but I do know that if it were my company, I would not put up with that crap for one second, either the programmers produce or I would not hesitate to fire their behinds. I think with today's right to work situation this could easily be accomplished, an why more companies do not do so is beyond my comprehension.

    Thanks

If you are interrested i can give you a link to the file which gives the False
Positive, so you can see for yourself.

I scanned it with lots of virusscanners now asked DiamondCS team, checked with all the other progs i've mentioned, and it really is a FP.
(or all the others are wrong)

Still curious when this FP is solved, i'll keep you up-to-date, scanned a few minutes ago (after updating A2) and ..it is still there !

    :doubt:

A one hour scan is quite normal actually.

Don't think so. Wilders supports a lot of quality products. And a² don't really belongs into this category. Or have you ever seen at least one reliable test that recommends a²? I don't.

Another day, another slam, another anonymous poster. :p

As to *reliable tests* of a-squared (or any other AT for that matter) -- tests of Anti-Trojans are few & far between. Moreover, AT's usually have very low scores on such tests. For example, take a look at a recent test by VirusP as reported HERE -- a-squared was ranked 46th, TDS 48th, AT Shield 50th, Trojan Hunter 52nd, Tauscan 53rd, Trojan Remover 54th, The Cleaner 55th. BOClean is seldom tested because they have no on-demand scanner.

As to the reasons WHY ATs do so poorly in tests, the best analysis I know of is that dated ~9/6/2004 by Blackcat...
As to a Wilder's forum for a-squared -- I doubt a-squared needs a forum here inasmuch as they have one of their own.

By the way, I noticed about 3 changes during the week ending 14 May whereby a-squared did some tweaks to the Guard. One tweak required a reboot afterward; the other 2 did not. Does anyone know what the nature of those tweaks were?

Sorry but this forum does allow postings without registration. And I am not an anonymous poster. If you just don't know my me or my name than I am sorry for you. I don't know what policies are in this forum but if you allow overhere postings without registration than you should treat those guest posters with the same respect as registered poster.

Also is it a slam if somebody says his true opinion which is indeed negative but backed up by the fact that there are no reliable tests about a² which can proof its claimed "excellence"?

Maybe instead of telling me how tests work you better start educating yourself about the quality of several tests. Don't want to get offtopic here discussing VirusP's test. But as a short note I never would consider this as reliable or widely accepted one.

The forum policies are not made by the members, the Administrators have.

They make such decisions by their own, without asking forum members for advice, and that's their good right.

But don't expect from "normal" (non-anonymous) forum members to applaud for every decision made by the Admins, the "normal" members have the right to give their own opinion expression, and for sure when such is done in a decent way.

I don't hold much stock in tests in the first place, they by nature have to have limitations, and who controls those limitations? I would much rather look at the opinions of numerous users of the product and after having done so then try an make a determination as to whether I want to try the product or not.

Also I think one is privileged to post at Wilders as a guest, quiet a few other forums do not allow this with out having registered. As a guest I would expect one to conduct themselves in the appropriate manner.

    Thanks

Let's all stay on topic here and not get into a side debate on guests, registered members or alike.

I see Quality products being supported but I don't see any anti trojans that do what a2 does (Guard, IDS, scanner all in one) and that is billed as a suppliment to an AV. I agree though they don't need a forum here.

I find the beauty of the thing is that a program must pass the test of the signatures (including the generic signatures) - then it has to run through IDS. As opposed to a combo of Boclean and PG for instance ( I am also a BOclean owner so leave me alone :p ) In that instance you have to take a guess first, then let Boclean have a crack at it. I like it the other way around. A lot. Makes sense to me ;)
