Test A2 with samples. It is on par with Avira. I couldn't say this a couple of years ago but I can say it now.

I don't have the ability to do such tests. I rely on others.
I admit it is difficult for me to believe that A2 suddenly came on the AV scene, and is as good as Avira and other top tier applications. That is the reason I want to see the AVC tests.

I am pretty well set for AVs at this time, but would consider it if I made a change.

    Regards,
    Jerry

Today I purchased a 1 year license of A2 AntiMalware to replace McAfee 2010 beta version which was doing great until it couldn't catch a couple of trojans I got in my inbox and thanks to VirusTotal I could find A2 AM was able to detect them.

So far so good, but there is something that annoys me: it seems A2 AM doesn't scan files while they are being copied or unzipped or downloaded. I need to manually scan them (or probably try to execute them in order to activate the scanner).

If somebody knows hot to set A2 AM to scan files while doing the actions mentioned, please let me know ;)

well that is how A2 works -on execution and on demand scanning only...

Really? mmm... I'm talking about A Squared AntiMalware. The one with antispyware + antivirus + Mamutu and real-time protection. It's $40.00 1 year... does it work the same?

Anyway, I have send them an email to clarify this.

yup i too am talking of it....see on main gui it says-on execution scan enabled, malware ids enabled etc
yes.... btw the free version is just an on demand scanner no on execution protection no IDS/surf protection in it

and you can seek clarifications etc at their forum.......http://forum.emsisoft.com/default.aspx?g=topics&f=2

I do not like false positives, but then again, I am not going to delete "system 32",or quarantine explorer exe, without taking a real good look at the detection.(or at all!!)
    I can live with that.
I do not know if is a factor with A-Squared Anti-malware,the same way it is with A-squared free, but I can not live with 20 min updates of the data base.

Me neither. I have just got one FP after scanning my two 120gb hard drives and before quarantine or delete something I always check the scanning report, be it from McAfee, Norton, NOD32 or A2.

As far as I've checked, the new version looks for new updates every hour (or the interval set by the user) and they take no more than a minute or two.
If I check the "Install Beta Updates" then yes, I will have to wait like 5-7 minutes to download the WHOLE package. But I don't want betas, so my update times are very very short.

Emsisoft maintains that A2AM works on 9x/ME with A2AM version 3.5, which is true until the first update, after which A2AM loads files for the NT kernel. Anyone have an idea to get around this issue?

I just bought one year license for this proggie. I got it highly discounted, 10 dollars/7,5 euros.

Is it light, medium or heavy on resource usage? I am asking because I just got one year license for NAV 2010 too. TIA.

Why not use it on demand? as a backup?

It has two processes "A2 guard" using about 15-20 mb of ram and "A2 service" using about 100-120 mb ram so depending on your pc specs it can be...ummm.........light, medium or heavy ;)

Thanks for the info. I am using Laptop with AMD Turion X2 Ultra 64 ZM-80.
I have 4 Gigabytes of RAM.

Currently I have loaded NAV 2010, Online Armor Premium and Mamutu.
Well, for me it is hard to decide if I should ditch NAV 2010 and unistall Mamutu.
After that I would install A2 Antimalware AV (which includes Mamutu). :doubt:

Any further info/advice is highly appreciated. Thank you.

well..........nav2010+OA+Mamutu is :thumb: but incase you want A2 you can then do this....remove mamutu install A2 disable the "on execution scan" keep IDS enabled i.e. mamutu and surf protection too enabled.....and use a2 database (which is huuuge) as on demand scanner for otherwise it will be an overkill with nav and OA.As for A2+OA its already being used in OA++ and is effective.

I just have one process: A2 Guard of 22-23 mb.... no traces of A2 Service

    http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/2386/30386843.jpg

It's running with very very low resources on my Core2Duo, 3GB RAM laptop.

    I have A2 running on Windows Server 2008. Both processes run at a combined 50MB (~10 + ~39).

I've found that most security apps can really vary depending on the specific OS used.

It seems that a2service is sort of "hidden" process.

I had to use SysInternals suite to locate it. Weird...
