    Hi
Can anyone tell me if either of these free anti-viruses has a email scanner or other types of scanners? Or are they just on-demand type scanners only? Avast(free) or Antivir(free). Thanks for any help.

I don't use either one of the av's you mentioned. I don't believe they have a mail scanner but they do scan attachments in your mail as you open them. They both have resident scanners as well as on demand. In my opinion avast is by far the superior av scanner. Check the links on their detection histories avast link to VB antivir link to VB

Both have Real-Time (On-Access) scan engine, but AntiVir lacks mail scanner as someone mentioned above. avast! supports MS Outlook/The Bat! via plugin and all other mail clients via localhost proxy.
