I would have picked Runbox too if they didn't had that small email alias limit. So I just bought a domain from Gandi.

10 aliases for Micro and 100 for Max. Just curious what do you use so many aliases for?

I use an alias for every site I need to log in. If one gets compromised and I start receiving spam I know who's the guilty one.

You might consider Abine Mask Me. Very easy to use and very effective.

Don't need that service. Never received a phone call to buy something in my entire life and I use debit/prepaid cards to buy stuff over internet.

    My requirements:
    • free
    • established company that's been around for awhile
    • web access
    • not Gmail (privacy concerns because some websites use googleapis.com)
    • not Yahoo Mail (privacy concerns because some websites use yahooapis.com)
    • does in-transit encryption with both incoming and outgoing email when possible, preferably using forward secrecy
    My thoughts on gmx.com:

    Test results:
    https://ssl-tools.net/mailservers/gmx.com
    https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=gmx.com
    https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=navigator-bs.gmx.com

The 2nd test result is an "F" instead of an "A" because gmx.com is apparently still vulnerable to Heartbleed. Their other servers have been fixed though.

    That's not true anymore.

Tip: If you have NoScript, you can force HTTPS: go to Options->Advanced->HTTPS->Behavior and then add .gmx.com to the list under "Force the following sites to use secure (HTTPS) connections."

    My thoughts on vfemail.net:
    • Mail server mx1.vfemail.net has certificate issues - see https://ssl-tools.net/mailservers/vfemail.net. Other than that, meets my criteria from post #84.
    • SSL Report on vfemail.net - see https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=vfemail.net.
    • Free account is limited to bandwidth of 50 MBytes per month.
    • Inbound mail is received quickly.
    • Outbound mail is delivered very slowly. My test email today took between 1 and 2 hours to be delivered, and I had similar results yesterday.
    • Free account adds a banner to emails.

    My thoughts on mail.aol.com:
    • As of May 28, 2014, does not use HTTPS after login. This has been mentioned in this thread already. I didn't try the NoScript trick from post #85 to see if it can be forced to always use HTTPS.

Strange that from May, both hotmail.com & personal.zoho.com don't encrypt outbound email during transmission ?

    @ MrBrian

Thanx for the info etc :thumb:

Could somebody with a Zoho account please do the "Sender" test at http://checktls.com/ and let us know the results?

    @CloneRanger: You're welcome :).

Abine is doing some really nice stuff. MaskMe is a valuable tool. And it's not necessarily about keeping your phone number from spammers as it is keeping your phone number private and out of multiple databases. All of which could be hacked at any time. With the credit card needing to match up with the correct phone number on about 40% of approved transactions, the Abine service is very much worthwhile. If you're willing to spend a tiny bit of money on your privacy.

You might as well go with Gmail instead of Yandex.
