6.0 Slower?

No matter what ESET uses for memory usage in their AV/Security Suite. It is still the lightest AV in terms of sheer system performance any time of the day!

Forget about RAM usage and all, with NOD32/ESS installed one would not even feel that he has an antivirus installed, his system would perform exactly the same way as it would have without an antivirus

that's what matters at the end of the day now how many MBs it uses

I for one have never EVER looked at how many MBs my AV is using....all I care is how my system feels when I have that particular AV installed

 

The discussion, at least where I was concerned was about it using 100MB of RAM. If yours is using 2-4GB, there is definitely a leak.

The persistent myth is that RAM usage = slow performance. My concern is that if the AV companies give in to the cries for using less RAM then they will hide it in swap space, which actually will slow it down. Hopefully they will optimize if for best performance regardless of RAM usage and everyone will be happy whether they know it or not. Ok, I am done kicking that horse.

 

I was talking about your buddy above going on about how much Memory he has and how he would not care if it used loads of it.

I do not know if it has a leak (but read here it does) as I only have this RC build on my Win8 install and I spend little time on Win8 as its not ideal the way it is right now.

My main OS has v 5.2 installed.

Acceptable? Well I think that I agree with Marcos that between 100-150 MB is fine Considering that the I/O writes keeps improving all the time via module updates!

And yes no doubt that if ekrn.exe uses several gigs of RAM there is a problem to fix. At the moment my ekrn.exe uses 93MB.

 

Some have reported that they have seen the leak with version 5.2 as well.
Though if I remember correctly these systems had been up and running for couple of days when the leak was discovered.

 

No, they are not target market at all..., all western companies and governments lick the boots of Chinese or South East Asia consumers...

AVs vendors sell their products cheaper than in western countries to fit the economy on those countries.

But you are also right, people used keygen or Free products like avast or avira.

For example , in Vietnam where i live actually since 3 years :

KIS = 15usd
NAV = 10usd
