Yes, this is what we do now and will continue to do. You can get cleanup only, safeonline only, cleanup and protection, or safeonline+cleanup+protection. This concept will remain and just have more possibilities.

I'm looking forward to seeing the firewall. I have a couple machines I would like to try it on. I've been waiting to see a firewall from Prevx for several years now. If its quality is as good as past Prevx products i'm sure I will be pleased :thumb:

Most people seem to have a yearly license, I purchased a 3 year license about a week before the sale of Prevx. How will version 4 effect me? Will you be fully supporting version 3 with the same commitment as version 4. I put my faith in Prevx that's why I purchased a 3 year license. I had no idea that the changes to prevx would be this major.
I mean a totally new product.
Maybe you should have told customers like myself to hold off on a three year license, as in a few months you will be left with our second best product one that will be far inferior to the one I have purchased.
I'm sure I would have waited. Now I can only wait and see:gack:

That's why I have held off on renewing any of my license this year. I was worried something like this might happen. I only have 1 license left that works right now, and i want be renewing it until the new version is released.

Prevx 3 works great as it is and we learned a lot when developing it. Prevx 4 is built off of the same principals and builds upon what Prevx 3 established but is done better in every regard. Companies generally just put on a new GUI when releasing a new product with minor changes but instead we have invested substantial resources developing the best of breed product yet again just because we felt that we could do better. I can't possibly fathom why anyone would not renew at this point or why they would be concerned about the next version - it's not as if we've thrown out everything and forgotten what we knew and started fresh with an MD5 based scanner written in Visual Basic and charge people more for it :p

I've given hints throughout this thread about what it will look like - the model is the same, the core concepts are the same, and the goal is the same but it is done with a "clean slate" implementation where we were able to build in everything we've wanted at once and plan it to be very forward looking.

I'll leave this thread open but I'm not going to be responding much anymore as after 500+ posts, this thread has far outlived any usefulness. Everyone here is discussing a product that our team has spent a massive amount of time developing in the knowledge that it is going to be a fantastic improvement - otherwise we obviously would not release it or bother with these changes as Prevx 3 does work extremely well.

The beta version will be released soon - I don't have an exact date but as I've said before, as this is a major improvement, we're waiting to get it right rather than rush it out. Other vendors prefer having more disclosure publicly about what features are in their next version and some have wider pre-beta phases but we don't - our goal is to have the best first impression and strongest software possible and releasing feature lists before a product serves only our competitors who could try to change their marketing to counter what we're saying.

People are trying to read between the lines a little to much here..

As for the Firewall question - You will be able to shut it off it wont be forced upon you just as any features included there is a off button for them.

As for what happens for people that have Yearly Licenses - you will get the upgraded Protection in V4 you will also have all your same features that you currently have. The only part of this whole thing that is in question is if Prevx will charge more for the new features (AKA the Firewall, Process Viewer and among other features Joe has hinted at) they may make a Prevx Internet Security Package or something to that extent.

That is the word Joe is waiting on to find out if it's all going to be included in one shabang or if the new stuff (Aka new features like Firewall among others) will be moved to a better package that cost slightly more..

People need to quit acting like they are getting the damn shaft ALL Anti Virus company's "Avast, Nod32, Norton, ect" Have done this where they released new features or did a complete overhaul they turned it into another package. This is nothing new people. :cautious:

Just as you guys I am in the middle of my license also But, I'm not going to sit here and expect Prevx to ship me a whole new feature set for free. If they upgrade to a Internet security Suite or something of that stature I'm sure they will have discounted way for us to upgrade those licenses to the new package just like every other company in this industry that has done this.

You really need to go back and re read Joes posts then, there has been lots of hits of new features. Your license will give you the upgrade to V4 and the same features you currently have (correct me if I'm wrong Joe) the unknown here is if your going to get access to the new feature set without paying a upgrade fee.

Fear and panic over the unknown runs rampant through this thread. While it is mildly entertaining it sure seems a bit overboard. Prevx will do the right thing and we all know it because they always have. This is like kids trying to go to sleep on Christmas Eve, knowing (PrevxHelp) Clause soon will be there.

Yes, as with every feature, you can fully disable it.

There will not be an estimated date as if it does not come out at that time then everyone will freak out again :gack: ! Joe did say Jan 2011 but that was an internal timetable as they are using it internally since then but everyone got on his case that it was a Beta release time for the public!

Yes well said as we are still very, very well protected with Prevx 3 even if some use unsupported browsers! :thumb:

    Cheers,

I'll have to 2nd this too for I don't want to change my firewall either. I hope there is an option to turn off that feature on PREVX 4.0

    Thanks

I've never bought a licence for any product for more than a year at a time and I probably never will for exactly the sort of reasons you've stated even though it's more expensive.

Just a question on Prevx4. Will this new version scan traffic before a file is downloaded to your system. Malicious links, etc, etc.
What I mean is actually picking something up like the Eicar test file when one clicks on the link to download it?

Hi kero68, here are some posts from PrevxHelp, which will tell you most of what has been allowed to be revealed yet, and I doubt if a lot more can be explained until the beta testing starts.
p.s. There's nothing wrong with Prevx 3.0 it works great! :)

NOT great -- it doesn't support Firefox 4.x. Moreover, some users of FF4 have not noticed the absence of the Prevx thingee while they browse. Thus, they mistakenly believe they are protected by Prevx whereas they are NOT protected.

Yes, everyone should pay attention, but some do not pay attention. This being the case, I wonder why Prevx hasn't done more to call this NON-protection to the attention of current users?

Please read my comment in context. I was not announcing an already established fact. Instead, I was stating a reason why I disagreed with "great."

I appreciate your quotation of the party line. But that quote has no particular relevance to the point I was trying to make --- NAMELY that I think it would be prudent for Prevx proponents to make some effort to ensure that *average users* (non-denizens of Wilders) are informed that they are not protected by Prevx when surfing with FF4.

Sorry for using adjective "great", when FF4 is not yet supported. I wonder how
many "average" users are on FF4 yet...perhaps 5 to 10%, and yes, this is just
a guess. It works ok on IE9 (for me anyway), and I believe for a few on FF4.
There is quite a lot of software not yet supporting FF4, but in essence I agree
that Prevx should support it, even with v3.

Are there any people who are successfully using Firefox 4 with a functional SOL in Prevx 3 ?

I thought I had seen this mentioned, but wasn`t sure if it was just anecdotal evidence or misinformation and/or confusion - if so, it would be interesting to know what the common differences are between those who have it working, and those who do not.

About the recent AV-Comparatives test, in PC Magazine:

"Webroot, tested for the first time, also scored low, and suffered false positives to boot.

I was surprised that Webroot's results didn't track more closely with Sophos, since Webroot licenses Sophos technology. AV-Comparatives.org's Peter Stelzhammer briefly explained that "Webroot equals Sophos minus cloud." Webroot plans to incorporate that cloud technology within the next 60 days."

Could this be what is delaying Prevx 4?. Maybe they intend a simultaneous release.
