There is a process monitor in Prevx 4 - it is a logical extension of the monitoring capabilities of Prevx and gives user an additional toolkit to use when others may fail.

Note that this is included in the default 540KB download :)

Some may say that additional features introduce bloat and I completely agree... if the features aren't done properly which will not ever be the case with Prevx :)

    Hi Joe

Thanks for chipping in re. this 'heated' debate.

Will be interesting to see the PrevX 'spin' on this feature...which I am sure will be appropriate & good :D

Certainly not if it has a "...default 540KB download".

That is lighter than Prevx3, if I am not mistaken! ;)

That's why 99.00% is done in the cloud! But what will interesting is the offline protection they promised! ;)

I didn't know if I should post this at the Prevx Releases forum or here. Either way, if something that could be changed, then I guess it's a suggestion for Prevx 4. lol

OK. Everything I download goes to a folder which has executation rights, and I've applied a low integrity level (Windows 7 here) with the flags NR NX NW.

I also have changed a registry key to this

    Code:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\3]
    "1806"=dword:00000003
This means that nothing within a certain list of dangerous crap won't execute inside that folder, nor will be able to write/execute to areas with higher privilege levels.

The thing is, Prevx cannot scan individual files in that folder. But, if I scan the folder, then it scans, but I'm not sure it scans all the files. I have to check the logs.

Still, it would be nice to be able to scan individual files from such folder. I can do it with Microsoft Security Essentials. I guess it depends how the application works.
Could it be something that Prevx 4 could work like?

IMO, before we start to request features, or come with suggestions about what we want in version 4.0.
Shouldn't we just wait until version 4.0 BETA is released and see what's actually in there, since your feature/suggestion may already be inside....

No offense just a thought ;)

I would say feature suggestions for Version 4 has come and gone considering its due to be released anytime now. I don't see them adding much more than what the beta will have in it other than maybe extensions for protection of additional apps.

Until the beta hits it's still currently in alpha where things and be added or changed depending on what they feel the need of it to be. And even in beta I have seen new features added, just because its at a certain place in development don't mean there is not room to expand. =)

(please excuse any spelling errors talk to type on my phone is not always actuate.) :argh:

I respect that, but I didn't give any suggestion for any feature with my previous post, rather an improvement in Prevx functionality, which seems not able to scan files, if they're placed in special folders, such as the example I gave.

To be able to scan such files, first I'd need to take them out of there, and place them in an area with that sort of restrictions, but it would be the purpose I have the folder for, stop execution of files.

Don't forget that 99% of the Prevx user base are average users maybe not Techie's like most of us in here at Wilders! ;) And we all know that Joe does look at all suggestions to see if it will benefit all of us!

Why would you say that? Joe (PrevxHelp) has assured us many times that Prevx4 will be released and that it is coming very soon. He has never failed us in the past so I see no reason to doubt him now.

If you recall (but in case you don't) Prevx betas are usually in the class of (and even better than) some Finals released by other vendors...and I for one am well prepared to wait a bit so that will continue.

The other thing is that in forums we tend to get wind of new versions way earlier than the general public and so IMHO we need to factor that into our 'patience equation'.

I am sure that they will deliver...they always have. :D

It is working for me in IE9 (beta, RC and Final.) The SOL Tab is probably on top of your browser window, make the window smaller and then you can open SOL tab and move it to a preferred place ;)

Glad to hear it. I am sure that you would be missing out on something good if it were to be the case...and if the past is anything to go by. :D
