    To everyone from Firefighter!

One of the biggest in Europe is again missing, Panda Antivirus?

    Best Regards,
    Firefighter!

  2. That's too bad for Panda...Really... I was a beta tester for Panda's 7.0 release, and I found it a really smooth, polished AV, with superior cleaning abilities and fast scanning. I believe an AV has to want to be tested, either Panda doesn't care (o_O) about VB or they know they'll fail o_O (which I don't believe)... That fact alone plus it's average unpackers (correct me if I'm wrong) have kept me away from Panda. They have an excellent on line scanner, though.. I am not sure if the AV companies have to pay to get tested...

I am using Panda AV 7.05.80 along with
GAV and Nod32 Beta and all are working well together
    with this configuration.
I am very pleased with the way Panda intigrated Sygate's Firewall . This combo seems to work very well.
However I am dissapointed in Panda for not allowing updates in their BETA. There is not anyway to test the
update feature. Guessing it is because I am using a public beta as apposed to a private beta?
Anyway, ALL betas should have full features, even if it is for a limited time.
The only thing dissabled in GAV is the real time scan
    wich requires a donation.
Are they affraid we will install their AV just to check our systems for nasties and then uninstall it again after cleaning?
I did write to Panda wich received a very timley responce but their answer was , " we don't allow def updates in the new beta and no other explanations were givin. I was going to send some files to them but figured it just wasn't worth it because with more recent updates( since 5-6-2003 ) i wasn't sure if they are catching them or not. They need to give a bit in order to get a bit.

Because VB testers are lamers. Kaspersky detected one file, which is able to do rebooting of PC as "Trojan Horse Rebooting". It was in CLEAN TEST SETS and this together with little brains of VB testers mean, that Kaspersky had "false positive"...

    gumajz,

VB has a strict set of rules - and antivirus vendors/developers are free to submit their software for VB testing, as Kaspersky has. I for one wouldn't call Eugene Kaspersky a "lamer" for submitting his software to a VB test, being perfectly aware of the rules from VB ;)

    regards.

    gumajz,

thanks for the info! Obviously, KAV's heuristics was a bit "too strong"... ;)

Still I wonder, why AVK and F-Secure did not have this false positive - I thought, all three would use the same heuristics...

I, for one, would much rather have a false positive than a missed 'live' virii!
Its a contentious issue failing a test because of a false positive, and one which VB has come under criticism for before, but it is indeed an award that most companies strive for (despite its dismissing by some)

If you want to check that the VirusBulletin 100% Awards are the most wanted Awards ever, Please, look at the websites from NAI, Symantec, RAV, F-secure, TrendMicro etc.

There you will see how important that latest VB 100% Award really is to them! :D :D :D

Maybe it tells us we have a choice.
This test is not about who catches the most, but about which AV´s catch all that really threatens us.

This search for the truth goes on. ;)

In my company I dictated that we only select a scanner that scores 100% at least 4 out of 5 times. Leaves plenty of choice, but it requires us to stay alert too :)
So far we didn't have to change our scanner, as it satisfies with our requirements.
